Pittsburgh Steelers RB

BOOTED from Team

For Allegedly Attacking GF

1/10/2013 12:26 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0110-chris-rainey-getty
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Chris Rainey has just been fired from the team for allegedly attacking his girlfriend this morning in Florida, TMZ has learned.

Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert tells us, "Chris Rainey’s actions this morning were extremely disappointing. Under the circumstances and due to this conduct, Chris will no longer be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers."

As we reported. Chris allegedly flew off the handle this morning in Gainesville when his girlfriend swiped his phone -- and slapped her in the face.

Chris has been charged with battery stemming from the incident. He's currently still in custody.

He's not some no-name bench warmer either -- Rainey scored two touchdowns this season for the Black and Gold.

Very glad to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as the NFL, taking these situations seriously.

Actually, I think the proper punishment when somebody "swipes" your phone...is a bitch-slap.

So its ok to keep a guy who has 2 rape allegations under his belt, but the guy who has 1 allegation of domestic abuse, which i am in no way condoning, is the one booted off. Right...that makes sense

Probably figured by using the morality clause they could dump him w/o having to pay out. Guessing it was more financial then them really thinking about what happened.

I don't condone violence but there has to be more to the story of them dropping him so quickly. They must have been looking for a reason. Until the police can conduct an investigation and he is found guilty, he should not be dropped. Clearly, he was hiding something from the gf but she had not right being the instigator (no, he shouldn't have hit her but depending what she found, she probably would have smacked him)

It breaks my heart! I've been a fan of Chris Rainey's since his days at Florida. Knowing this one event, and its consequences, could ruin a promising NFL career is sad.

So... No more 'innocent until proven guilty' in the USA? Just, you're accused then fired from a job that has nothing to do with anything including the alleged victim? Ok, we'll God bless America.

It's about time these men are held accountable for their actions by their teams. They have no respect for women. They whore around making baby mamas, cheating on their wives/girlfriends, beating up their women and killing them and people make heroes out of them.

Maybe Rainey should have just raped someone. The Steelers stick behind you longer if you do that.

Way to go, Steelers. It is way past time for these teams to take a hard line toward violent players. As for Chris, maybe he needs to be a little more careful when he picks his women if he doesn't want to get into situations like this. Decent women don't steal phones, Chris.
