Pittsburgh Steelers RB

BOOTED from Team

For Allegedly Attacking GF

1/10/2013 12:26 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Chris Rainey has just been fired from the team for allegedly attacking his girlfriend this morning in Florida, TMZ has learned.

Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert tells us, "Chris Rainey’s actions this morning were extremely disappointing. Under the circumstances and due to this conduct, Chris will no longer be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers."

As we reported. Chris allegedly flew off the handle this morning in Gainesville when his girlfriend swiped his phone -- and slapped her in the face.

Chris has been charged with battery stemming from the incident. He's currently still in custody.

He's not some no-name bench warmer either -- Rainey scored two touchdowns this season for the Black and Gold.

I don't see how any professional NFL player can be fired for a domestic situation with they're girlfriend people have more leeway on Blue collar jobs. I can see Mandatory counseling and anger management classes, but not taking away their career. It really is a matter handled by the police! What if the general managers or owner of the team smacks his wife around,do they fire themselves to??

However, the raping QB is still on the team..

GOOD FOR THEM! I can't believe the Steelers' management did the right thing and did it so swiftly. We know we are living in an age when, sadly, many black men have no moral compass -- no respect for their women, their children or themselves (stop calling yourselves n!ggers and maybe the rest of the world will stop viewing you that way). So theories of "right" and "wrong" will never have an effect on this lost generation of black males (very minute of every day, another one arrested). But hitting them in their WALLETS, now THAT's something that will get their attention.

allegedly you rape 2 people = job is safe!
allegedly you slap = you FIRED!

Makes a lot of sense? This only shows that the NFL looks the other way to its Stars (if thats what they call BEN)!! Granted he did slap her, and deserves to be fired. But still you kept the Rapist??

Good for them! There has to be a no tolerance rule in the NFL for this kind of madness.

"He's not some no-name bench warmer either -- Rainey scored two touchdowns this season for the Black and Gold. "

Two touchdowns all season long. WOW! And he's making big bucks I assume. If he was a "bench warmer" he would only have one touchdown?

I am Spartacus

Don't applaud the Steelers, they're only getting rid of him because they don't really want him anymore. If the guy was putting up ridiculous numbers and helping them win games they'd stand behind him and say "we're going to let the process play out" before deciding what to do with him. That's why Ben the Rapist is still on the team and wasn't immediately cut after being accused of rape TWICE.

Wow! As I recall a short time back, Big Ben was ACCUSED of rape, yet he is still on the team. As I recall, one is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This player "ALLEGEDLY" attacked his girlfriend which has yet to be proven. I just think it's unfortunate for this player as well as his girlfriend.

O-C Guy

Unfortunately, Mr. Rainey is not a white nor a star QB has his teammate, Big Ben Roethlisberger. . . who just so happened to skate away from two rape "allegations" in Lake Tahoe and Milledgeville, Georgia a few short years ago. (I wonder when the sport reporters will ask Big Ben his thoughts on his teammate's termination verses his two Get Out of Jail passes?)
