Quentin Tarantino

Explodes on Reporter

Don't Ask Me About Movie Violence!!!

1/11/2013 8:37 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Quentin Tarantino says he's sick and tired of talking about the connection between movie violence and real violence ... and ERUPTED on a British news reporter who asked about it during an interview about "Django Unchained."

Tarantino was sitting down with Krishnan Guru-Murthy -- a self-proclaimed "fan" of Q's movies -- when he asked, "Why are you so sure that there's no link between enjoying movie violence and enjoying real violence?"

A flustered Tarantino replied,  "Don't ask me a question like that ... I'm not biting ... I refuse your question."

When Guru-Murthy asked "why" ... Q explained, "Because I refuse your question. I'm not your slave and you're not my master. You can't make me dance to your tune. I'm not a monkey."

Quentin explained that the interview was supposed to be a "commercial" for his movie -- and he has no obligation to explore the topic of real-life violence.

KGM shot back -- "Well, look ... this is a news program, not a film program, so we explore serious themes."

The two went back and forth in a pretty heated exchange for several minutes.

Eventually, KGM was able to shift topics ... and QT continued like the awkward argument never happened.

you call that exploding.....i know you guys make news out of this stuff, but really, we all know what the reporter was trying to do, and its exactly what your doing with the story, and that's making a headline sound like something its not

If the reporter wanted a serious meaningful answer about it he would have interviewed a sociologist that has researched the topic not an artist.

Say What again... I dare you...

Normally I like this news guy but he is slowly falling like the rest... get back to the movie and leave the whole violence mess behind...

I can't wait to see this movie.. I love QT and I hope this stands up to his other films.

Also I do think QT is right and I do think we should dive into history more dealing with the slave trade. I am mostly at a loss when I hear some people talk about it or doing the default blame the white guy etc.

I am half Mex and There is nothing more disgusting than the slave trade other than African Americans not knowing the full story.. Hell its not even taught in schools anymore that slaves were traded to other countries and in different parts of Africa way before America was involved.

Quentin Tarantino - almost gets violent when asked about his movie violence! You can't make it up!

A mix of brilliance, arrogance and delusion...that's for sure - To suggest this movie makes any contribution to the discussion on American slavery is absurd!

Good. I'm glad he tried to put a stop to that line of questions. I'm tired of people, like Piers Morgan, who insist that violent video games, violent movies, and guns are causing mass shootings and unstable people, etc. You know this guy would have eventually tried to mention and ask about the recent mass shootings and relate it to violence in movies, etc. I'm sure QT saw right through that and knew where it was heading. Why do people honestly think that if we make guns, violent video games/movies illegal, it'll solve the world's problems? Where's the personal responsibility? Where's the parenting? Why must we live in a world where we lose personal freedoms just because a few are mentally unstable or criminals? Sheesh...I'm happy to see someone actually shooting down (pun intended) such stupidity.

Now if the NRA guy talked like that you and the rest of the media would be all over him......but because hes a Hollywood type, he'll get a pass.

More gun control, yes, but Hollywood has to ante up too. Censorship on films like QT's. You cannot deny that movies inspire these shooters and the general violence in our society.

I don't think that violent movies are alone to blame for violence in our society but if Q thinks that the mentally unstable consider it merely fantasy and walk away from it untouched then he's delusional. The mentally stable are able to handle it but he has to consider the whackjobs? A mentally ill 19 year old is not going to take into consideration what mom, dad, counselor, teacher have said. He or she is more likely going to grab onto what Q and others like him have put out there.

I didn't see any explosion in that interview. I just saw a director who's serious about his craft , not willing to get dragged into someone else's agenda. Good for him!
