Cam Newton

Pulls a Dangerfield ...

Heads Back to School

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton knows ... he's gotta have a backup plan if the whole NFL thing doesn't work out ... so he's heading back to college.

Newton -- who blew off school to become the #1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft -- has re-enrolled at Auburn University for the spring semester to continue working on his sociology degree.

FYI -- Newton signed a 4-year, $22 million contract with the Panthers when he first left Auburn ... and has undoubtedly racked up millions more through various endorsement deals.

Still, it's clear Newton knows you can't put a price on a good education ... and made the decision to go back.

A rep for the school told the Associated Press Cam won't be talking to the media about his decision because he just "wants to focus on school and be a normal student."

A normal student ... who can buy and sell the entire teaching staff.

For the people on here that doesn't know Cam. Heathen football is over he will be opening up a daycare or some sort of center tht works with children.... Preferably little boys who have behavior problems. That's why he is going back to get his degree. It's better than blowing all your money during the off season and running around getting arrested like the rest of the football players when they are bored. And I the comment about him not being a good QB his first two seasons are better than Peyton mannings first two season check your record book!!! If u even know anything about football!!! P.S. he bought a stolen laptop he didnt go steal it himself.

Good for Cam. I bet he's making his parents happy by going and getting his degree. Sociology is actually a good thing for him to be studying so he can help out various charities during his NFL career.

The NFL has a bunch of causes that the players get involved with like after school programs for kids in inner cities, handicapped kids, kids hospitals, etc. Who knows, maybe could put his college degree to work and maybe help run one of those charities someday after he retires from football and moves back to his hometown of Atlanta.

That sociology degree will come in helpful should he decide to become a barista at Starbucks.

Every athlete has a job as he towns insurance salesman when they are done. Or a car dealer.

Why so many haters. I would think you'd be happy for him and wish him luck. It sounds like to me he's trying to make sure he has a future after football. How many other athletes can say the same? How many are broke a few yrs later. Good for you Cam Newton

So will he fail out when he cannot take joke classes like most college athletes do, and realize that he won't get an "A" for showing up to class because he isn't their star QB anymore? Funny how a lot of athletes talk about going back to school, then they do, and you never hear about them graduating, because school isn't easy when you aren't a privileged athlete.
