Manti Te'o

Notre Dame's Story

Sinks Manti

1/17/2013 3:27 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

Manti Te'o continued to tell people his girlfriend died of cancer even after he learned it was all a big hoax ... and this is according to Notre Dame's public version of the facts.

During a news conference Wednesday night, ND Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick said ... Manti told ND officials that he first learned the whole thing was a hoax when he received a call from his GF's phone number during an ESPN award show in December ... months after she was presumed dead.

The ESPN college football awards ceremony took place in Orlando on Dec. 6 -- but just two days later, on Dec. 8, Te'o gave a statement to reporters in anticipation of the Heisman Trophy ceremony, in which he continued to perpetuate the belief that his girlfriend had died from cancer.

Te'o told reporters ... “I don’t like cancer at all. I lost both my grandparents and my girlfriend to cancer,” this according to WSBT-TV.

We now know Manti's statement wasn't true -- and by Notre Dame's own account, Manti lied.

It begs the question -- what else did he lie about?

Notre Dame also told the poor guy they would find out what's going on and not to say anything to the press or anyone else until a full investigation happened. They also stated they were going to release a statement to the public about the Hoax next week but Deadspin trumped them. Is there anything else you guys would like to say to try and make this a huge controversy? I'm still waiting for Manti to give his statement, how about we listen to that too.
I'll come back and post when celebrity news and entertainment are predominant on the first page of this place. You are truly getting stupid with this. First and last post on this thread.

I've only been nreading the headlines on this story and am wondering what the big deal is and who really cares. Unfortunately, people lie. Unfortunately, people are misled. Don't know which may apply here. But really, who cares about this story and what's the big deal?

i think he was in on it..but i have a good explanation for why he said that.he had just found out a few days later and may have been a little reluctant as to what to do about the situation.

Nothing about this story makes any sense if you believe Te'o or Notre Dame... if that is the case, you know he is a lying about everything...

Kudos to Notre Dame--I hope they continue to be forthcoming and tell the truth. It's not worth going down with the ship for this guy. Personally, I think he's gay (not that there's anything wrong with that, to quote Seinfeld) and this whole "pretend girlfriend" worked well for him. The death thing just threw him into the spotlight, and he loved it. Straight or gay--what a lying loser. He owes a lot of apologies to a lot of people, including people with cancer.

So is he now qualified for priesthood?

perhaps he was told to "allow the lie" as someone did some investigation maybe in to some sort of blackmail or fraud by using the "death" in a eventually charity or something? maybe authorities did know of the lie when he did and informed him to keep telling it so as to not spook the person behind it so they could track them down?

He's hiding the fact that he is in fact GAY. Only those "in the closet" have made up girlfriends!
