Collapses

On Stage

Scary moment at the Gin Blossoms concert in New York this weekend ... when the bass player COLLAPSED right on the stage ... and the whole thing was caught on tape.

The 90s band was playing a gig at The Paramount Friday night -- and right in the middle of their smash hit "Hey Jealousy" ... Bill Leen stumbled backwards and crashed to the floor, appearing to pass out.

In the video, you can see a stagehand race over to help out while Bill is sprawled out on the floor.

Bill was dazed and confused when he hit the ground ... but we're told he was back to normal moments later and refused further medical attention.

A rep for the band tells us ... Bill's condition was caused by "exhaustion from the road" ... and after a good night's sleep, he was well enough to perform the very next day.

Good riddance!

Wow! They're still around! I remember seeing them playing in Tempe at Long Wongs and some other really small and up close bars and clubs with the original line up and they were a really nice bunch of guys. Never knew them that well, but shared a few beers with them a couple of times before they hit it big for a while. Wish them all good luck!

When I woke up this morning, the last thing I expected, and that includes the possibility of a meteor landing on my head, was to see a post about the Gin Blossoms under the banner "Breaking News."

Hey, folks: if you know ANYTHING about the Gin Blossoms, you know its NOT drugs. Especially not The Worker of the Band, Bill Leen.

I've played long sets before myself, and I can tell you it is exhausting - you give everything you've got on stage. Now do that every night, and travel, and you do the math.

Here's hoping that Bill Leen's incredible bass playing continues a long, long time!
