'Django' Slave Toys

BANNED from eBay

1/24/2013 9:48 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0124-django-toys-ebay
Don't count on finding one of those discontinued "Django Unchained" slave toys on eBay any time soon -- TMZ has learned, the action figures have now been banned from the auction website.

TMZ broke the story ... the Weinstein Company (which produced the film) discontinued the promotional figurines in response to a massive backlash from several African-American advocacy groups.

After the toy company halted production, the toys began to pop up on eBay as "rare" collectibles ... and bids skyrocketed.

0124-django-ebay-list
But last night, all the listings for the "Django" toys were yanked from the website -- and eBay explained itself to sellers with an email, saying, "Since the manufacturer of this product has discontinued the item’s sale due to its potentially offensive nature, we are not allowing it to be sold on eBay.”

eBay also cautioned the sellers not to re-list the items.

A rep for the auction website confirmed the story, telling us, "These [toys] were removed as they were in violation of our Offensive Materials policy."

American society devalues Black people and enjoys using them for cruel sport and entertainment. From the early days of this country in performances, in particular some say in 1832 with the advent of the Jumping Jim Crow racial caricature performed in blackface, mocking Black people and finding joy in their pain has gone on. Consider the gleeful pictures of audiences assembled for the lynching of Black folk. The ignorant, depraved Negro was essential to the groundbreaking movie “Birth of A Nation,” which chronicled the rise of the KKK as saviours of the South from crazed ex-slaves intent on ravaging White women. When it aired with amazing techniques like quick cuts, night scenes and actually moving the camera, Whites went berserk and attacked Blacks. The 1915 movie was so powerful it was banned in some places—including Northern cities—because of race riots. This country has relished the degradation of Black people on the streets and on TV screens. Academy Awards have gone to Blacks playing maids, a dirty cop and an emotional-sexual beast. If you see a pattern here, LIKE this post! With others controlling their images, the images of Black people have always been distorted to suit the needs of a system based on White Supremacy that must prove the lie of Black inferiority.

....I was one of the people who had an auction yanked. Strange that action figures are too offensive, and yet if you do a search for 'Klu Klux Klan', 'Kill Whitey', Nazi, 'Song of the South', 'Birth of a Nation', or even the 'N' word, there are plenty of auctions that EBay is apparently fine with....

The Emancipation Proclamation was nothing but a “cruel hoax” that ultimately left millions of formerly enslaved Africans in a state of political and economic dependency and peonage. First, it is important to clarify Lincoln’s motives for the Proclamation and its limits. While there is little doubt that Lincoln found slavery morally repugnant, ending slavery was not his primary motive for waging a war against the Confederacy. Plain and simple, Lincoln’s ultimate goal was to preserve the cherished American Union. The harsh reality is that the vast majority of formerly enslaved Africans were forced into a state of quasi-slavery. Without the promised “forty acres and a mule,” property or education, many of the newly freed slaves landed back on the very plantations they had fled to become sharecroppers, tenant farmers and agricultural laborers. It was a cruel emancipation that delivered you back into a state of dependency into the hands of your former slave master. For the countless thousands of formerly enslaved Africans who were left to fend for themselves, wandering from place to place like paupers, numerous Southern counties adopted vagrancy laws which provided for the arrest of crowds of people who were not gainfully employed. Once imprisoned, unscrupulous wardens would hire out inmates to local landowners and businesses, utilizing the infamous convict-lease system.

Throughout the South the newly freed Africans bore the brunt of this hostility and resistance. The former Confederates created organizations like the Ku Klux Klan, White Brotherhood and Knights of the White Camelia with the overt intent of intimidating, terrorizing and brutalizing Blacks and driving them from power. Despite the stationing of Union troops to protect the right of Blacks to vote, the reign of terror by White supremacist organizations coupled with the economic servitude/dependency of formerly enslaved Africans, was increasingly effective in frightening Blacks away from the ballot box. By 1876 a sufficient number of Whites had regained the franchise. Black political power had been dependent power, and with the withdrawal of support by the Republicans that power would wither under the vicious onslaught of White supremacist forces, determined to put the Negro back in his rightful place as a quasi-slave. Northern Euro-ethnic wage earners could pass on their meager savings to the next generation to begin an inter-generational wealth-building process. The formerly enslaved Africans had no such prospect - an intergenerational deficit that Africans in America suffer from to this day. Such was the Cruel Hoax of Emancipation!

These are collectibles made for the adult collector's market and fans of the movie. They aren't toys for little kids to play with. I don't see why they're being banned. Some people are just stupid.

What will be next? Action figures of Holocoust survivors?
They should check their ancestry, sure someone's been hidden under the rug someone somewhere.
Do not mean to offense anyone. TITO

Well by that logic the film company should have also banned the film itself, along with so many others. After all , it was based on a historical wrong , and had offensiveness throughout. Hmmm
