'Django' Slave Toys

BANNED from eBay

1/24/2013 9:48 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Don't count on finding one of those discontinued "Django Unchained" slave toys on eBay any time soon -- TMZ has learned, the action figures have now been banned from the auction website.

TMZ broke the story ... the Weinstein Company (which produced the film) discontinued the promotional figurines in response to a massive backlash from several African-American advocacy groups.

After the toy company halted production, the toys began to pop up on eBay as "rare" collectibles ... and bids skyrocketed.

But last night, all the listings for the "Django" toys were yanked from the website -- and eBay explained itself to sellers with an email, saying, "Since the manufacturer of this product has discontinued the item’s sale due to its potentially offensive nature, we are not allowing it to be sold on eBay.”

eBay also cautioned the sellers not to re-list the items.

A rep for the auction website confirmed the story, telling us, "These [toys] were removed as they were in violation of our Offensive Materials policy."

This has gone too far. If you disagree with the fact that ebay finds selling copies of Mein Kampf more acceptable that Django unchained dolls, do what I did. Proceed to their site and report all KKK memorabilia, Nazi artifacts, copies of Mein Kampf, Blackface dolls, etc as racially offesnsive . . . as they are. Bombard them with their own hypocrisy.

Marc toys from a film which criticizes slavery are offensive? Who opposes these toys? The KKK? Will they block the sale of the movie itself? Hello folks, freedom of artistic expression covers dolls too. I think it's time that dinosaurs like Al Sharpton find better ways to get the attention they desperately crave aside from exploiting their own race. Hey Al watch Django, I think you might relate to a character called Steven.

They aren't banned! Geez. Check eBay for listings before writing your "news" article.

eBay doesn't like dolls of black people. It corrupts their squeaky clean image. Only honky dolls are allowed. Or vibrating dild0s. Or potato chips that look like a p3nis.

I almost just let this go, just a stupid doll, but I haven't gotten on my soap box in awhile so what the hell. To any who want to compare this to pedophilia or other shock crimes in an attempt to make those who disagree with this method of absolute control seem like racists or even a worse evil, need to remember not everyone that sees this differently than you is the enemy in need of attack. Thats the problem with censorship, only a one way conversation is acceptable. I'm quite willing to listen to your thoughts without accusing you of henious desires. A white man making a movie about slavery isn't against the law YET in this country. And making dolls representing the characters in the movie isn't against the law YET either. And selling those legally made dolls isn't against the law YET. Pedophilia is against the law. If you can't see the difference between the two then you don't need to read on. I don't believe that censorship is the way of freedom ever. There is so much garbage out there that I would LOVE to see gone. But others clearly want what I view as garbage and unhealthy for society. That's why it exists. Supply and demand. I simple don't watch, don't buy, and speak out about what I find offensive. It would have been interesting to see if these dolls sold at all when they were 39.99 each. Ridiculous. I seriously doubt there would have been as rush to buy them especially with protests spreading out about them except by collectors. And how much better to see these dolls sell a few hundred, even thousand, then be tossed in the discount bins. That would have been a better statement about America and the power of the people than to shut the statement up all together. Protests are not just our right but our moral responsibilty when we see things that need to be brought to light. Turning off the light when we don't agree with the subject (again LEGAL pursuits) is a road that this old hippy refuses to go down even for this cause. Two hundred million Africans died in the middle passage. That is a HUGE number of souls even by todays standards. Generations were wiped off the planet forever. We should never ever lose sight of that. We should always remember. Shining the brightest light possible on the hideousness of slavery is always the way. Does this movie help? I don't know. But I do know that Censoring the conversation accomplishes nothing and using intimidation to shut up those who see things differently was the tactic used to keep blacks subservient for years and years. Thank God a generation of blacks and whites rose up to say NO MORE. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was the beginning of the ending of that intimidation working. The intimidation didn't die out but the response to that intimidation changed making the tactic useless. Protest away but Blacks need not fear a movie or a doll but we all should fear losing the freedoms granted to us by hard fought battles by those that went before us.

What is wrong with having a /vigger doll?

Doesn't matter- the serious bidders already know who the sellers are/were, so now they'll just make a deal off of ebay, and ebay loses out, which is good because they're too expensive anyway; after all the fees and crap, you take a nice sized loss on the asking price.

So action figures from a movie that shows a slave taking revenge on his slave masters is banned but I can buy actual movie props from the TV show Roots on the same site.

The British are not coming back nor are the Russian’s and Iranians coming; America needs to reconsider the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution that allows citizens the right to bear arms.

To those of you that keep yapping about "freedom", there is no freedom without responsibility. Only idiots think they can do anything they want without consequence.

And certainly, Quentin Tarentino is an idiot.
