Burt Reynolds

Intensive Care Unit After Catching the Flu

1/25/2013 12:17 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0124-burt-reynolds-gettyBurt Reynolds is being treated in the intensive care unit at a Florida hospital ... after coming down with a nasty case of the flu ... TMZ has learned.

According to Burt's rep ... Burt, like everyone else in the country, caught that nasty flu bug that's been going around ... and was coping with the symptoms for several days.

But the symptoms got worse, and Burt was admitted to the hospital. The rep tells us Burt was moved to the ICU earlier today after doctors determined he was "severely dehydrated."

The good news -- we're told doctors are optimistic that he will make a full recovery.

We're told Reynolds' mustache is also doing OK.

People are dying, homeless and starving in the world and we have to focus on a has-been movie star that has the flu? Get real!

I think it would be more like the norovirus that is spreading than it would be the flu if he's in ICU and dehydrated, but this is TMZ. I grew up seeing him. I sneaked a few looks in a ladie's magazine to see his centerfold, and my dad had a tape of Smokey and the Bandit that he loved. He was very famous in his day. Get well soon Burt.

So, Burt Reynolds is in the hospital - but in what city or town? Florida is a mighty big state, and if you drove from Pensacola to Miami, you might need to stop and spend the night somewhere - depending on the weather and your own endurance.

Your whole registration process is a tremendous pain in the can. Your software does not do what it says it is going to do - and among other things, it tells us to check out in-boxes to confirm things, when in reality, nothing has been sent to us at all. So, we waste a lot of time looking for it.

Also, your whole "registration" and logging in process is a completely paranoid one that accomplished exactly nothing. Any person of ill will can sign up just like anyone else.

You should just let people type in and post their comments, and then when you get any despicable ones, you can just erase them. As it is now, you have "commenters" who have been posting ads for whatever shady commercial ventures they are involved in. Cut out all of this crock about registering. There in no money changing hands, anyway.

If sense were common everyone would have it.

Glad he's better. With a compromised immune system, and advanced age, it's easy for the flu to turn into pneumonia.

Btw forgot how funny "Smoky" was without the censoring you see on basic cable.

Actually, he was the Bandit. Smokey was Buford T. Justice, played by Jackie Gleason.

His plastic surgeon should be in the cell next to Conrad Murray.
