49ers Legend Ronnie Lott

Chris Culliver

Is DEAD WRONG

1/31/2013 9:55 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0131_ronnie_lott_chris_culliver

Chris Culliver should have paid closer attention to Barack Obama's pro-gay rights inauguration speech ... this according to one of the greatest 49ers of all time ... Ronnie Lott.

We spoke to Lott in the wake of Culliver's anti-gay comments -- when he told Artie Lange gay players shouldn't be allowed in the team locker room (see video below).

Lott responded, "Everything [Obama] mentioned in that speech I stand for-- inviting gays and inviting people of color, inviting all of us to understand what we're doing right now, is the right thing."

FYI -- Obama talked about the importance of gay rights during his speech ... telling Americans, "Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law."

So far, the 49ers have not said if Culliver will play in Sunday's game.

Ronnie Lott is a generous and very classy. Have known him and family for years. He is the nicest guy and fair to all. This dumb player Chris needs people skills more than football skills.

What he said is very disgusting and I'm sure he would be pissed right off if we changed the words in his opinion from gay people are not allowed to blacks are not allowed. That being said, it is not relevant in how he performs his job and he should still be able to play. Going forward though, teams may not want that kind of hate on their teams and may not want to hire him

Seriously? Is this the USA or not? FREE SPEECH. 49'ERS should not alter their game plan on the field. Use this as a teachable moment for the team and the SF fans...and move on

I'm more INSULTED Ray Lewis is playing after his involvement with TWO MURDERS & turning state evidence, & lies since then...... than a dumb, young, NFL player - not a brain surgeon or politician....

We have a VP who is an admitted plagiarist, a former Prez who is an admitted felon (obstructing justice & perjury), a US Senator who drove a car into a lake & let the young lady drown in the back seat, we're going nuts because a young NFL player on a shock jock show said something that may be truthful for him -but, was not PC & he plays for the most PC City team in the country....

Just say I think we all have equal rights & will do more to encourage that for all people. My personal religious beliefs are just that...and I should keep that personal.... But, we all have our right to life, liberty, and pursut of happiness- period.

It is not WWIII & this guy should be allowed to play...his words should have zero impact on his ability to play a game in a league full of a lot of questionable characters.
Ray Lewis may be the Super Bowl MVP - think of that. The guy w/2 dead bodies in his NFL career.....

Hey,CBS NFL Super Bowl TV announcer Dan Marino, how's your other daughter, the one with the CBS girlfriend you had while married.

Actually after watching the interview, it seems more like he was trying to be funny more than phobic. Artie asked him if he liked dudes and he was saying no, he's not into it. He just wasn't funny.

There was a quick response and Cullilver’s apology showed real regret. Or did it? Compare the language and grammar used in the interview to what’s in the statement. Does anyone really think that Culliver wrote that apology? I don’t believe the 49ers PR team did Culliver a favor by putting (what looks like to me) an obviously phony statement into his hands. Of course, the PR people should have provided some guidance and assistance but (assuming they were involved) they stripped the effort of its intended benefit by removing all elements of authenticity. I can’t imagine that his fans or the gay community felt that Culliver was truly chastened or changed by the incident.

OH MAN, TMZ STOP THIS BULLSH*T!! GETTING EX-49ER'S TO BACK TRACK IN A PR SPIN IS NOT GONNA CHANGE WHAT CULLIVER SAID BECAUSE HE IS RIGHT - THE UNDERLYING PREVAILING ATTITUDE IN THE NFL ARE GAYS ARE NOT ALLOWED AND WILL BE TREATED DIFFERENTLY BY THE PLAYERS ON THE FIELD AND IN THE LOCKER ROOM, POINT BLANK!! GETTING EX-FORMER PLAYERS DONT MEAN SH*T. THEY DONT HAVE TO PLAY OR CONFRONT THE ACTUAL PLAYER MENTALITY OR LEAGUE CULTURE ANYMORE - THEY PLAYING DAYS ARE ALREADY OVER. MAN, READ WADE DAVIS INTERVIEWS ON NFL.COM. HE TALKS THE REAL SH*T ABOUT HOW GAYS ARE/WILL BE TREATED IF OUTTED IN THE NFL. #TRUTH!!

NoNoNo. You can't spew stupid hateful **** in front of camera and microphone and then two days later apologize. NoNoNo, the NFL Suits are saying this is not what he truly meant from his heart. Then why did he say it? Just jump him.
