Oprah Winfrey

Slapped

with Sex Discrimination Suit

2/2/2013 7:05 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0202-oprah-tmzOprah Winfrey does not look out for her own ... at least that's what is alleged in a new lawsuit in which a female exec at OWN claims she lost her job because she got knocked up.

According to a lawsuit filed Friday, Carolyn Hommel claims she was hired in 2010 as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at Oprah's OWN network. Hommel claims she was told she was on-track to become a VP, but says things took a sudden turn when she became pregnant.

According to Hommel ... her duties were slowly transferred to a temporary employee and she was excluded from meetings when she returned from medical leave. Hommel claims she was let go ONE MONTH after giving birth and told to re-apply for the VP gig ... only to be passed over.

Furthermore, Hommel claims her boss, Michael Garner, fabricated a performance review that "made Hommel's job duties and responsibilities appear less 'senior' and therefore not a candidate for the new vice president position."

Hommel allegees her dismissal was a direct result of her becoming pregnant and requiring a medical leave.

I'm gonna say this happened, with OWN, but that particularly Oprah is not a part of the upper management at OWN, she makes money off it, but hiring and firing choices are most likely not her own, which to be fair the case is against the company OWN and not Oprah. I'm not a huge Oprah fan, only being 22, but things need to change, most of my University was women, not all of us are going to pass up being a mom, I think men should get paternity leave if they want it, both parents, not for time off, but because having a child is important. My generation of women are going to be coming into these jobs in 10 years, and having kids and there are more of us than men with college degrees at the generation, so this companies are just going to have to suck it the **** up.

We have become a suing society. I'm a baby boomer and things weren't as political back in the day. If you were an employee and didn't perform up to company standards you got the pink slip. Period. Today businesses are failing left and right and our economy sucks. Why? Because companies can't earn any money by paying for insurance against lawsuits, paying two times a salary for one position and having to hire underqualified because of minority laws. Everyone is protected by some goofy law so companies can't pay good salaries and earn money. Everyone wants rights so now that we have them don't cry about being broke.

Does anybody not remember what she did when she heard about discrimination in her school? She went down there and kicked some butt. So maybe it's true, we have no idea, but i doubt that. Her precedent is so largely opposite of this, i just have a hard time believing that, her network or anything owned or affiliated by Oprah. Maybe it happened, but if it was truthful, she would swoop down like Mama Eagle, as she did in the children's school, I believe.

Don't know what is true with only one side of the story. Some people will say and do anything for recognition and there is alway a vulture lawyer willing to take the case to cash in.

I don't think that pregnant women should be welcome back to their pre-baby jobs. They should be offered what is available. The business world doesn't stop, because they decided to have a baby.

The story is of a disgruntled ex-employee...When did it become a personal, jealous tirade against Oprah. The people who are hating and bashing her WISH they had 1/4 of her wealth. Uneducated, lazy trash
