Horrific Wreck

Injures 28 at Daytona

2/23/2013 2:26 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0223_nascar_crashA multicar crash on the final lap of the Nationwide Series race Saturday at Daytona International Speedway injured 28 fans, including one who suffered life-threatening head trauma.

At least one tire flew into the crowd at Daytona International Speedway ... where 14 of the injured were treated on site and the other 14 were transferred off-site.

A representative from nearby Halifax Medical Center told ESPN that one adult underwent surgery for life-threatening head trauma, and a 14-year-old is in critical, but not life-threatening condition.

Kyle Larson, the driver of the car that was torn to pieces, was not injured.

The Daytona 500, the first and biggest event of the racing season, takes place at the same track tomorrow.

Well its good to hear that he was torn to pieces but managed to go home without injury. Did they just glue him back together at the scene and then he was off on his merry way?

Wakeup call #418. Don't get next to racing cars unless you're ready to die. Like 83 spectators did at the scene, in 1955 LeMans disaster.

I wonder how long it'll take for the libtard lawmakers to say we should ban nascar racing too.

Real stock car fans know the risks of sitting by the fence-- it's not a surprise---it's part of the fun of racing. Accidents do happen..again, not a surprise. Try to make the fans back up---and they won't be happy. Everyone who walks onto the race track knows the risks.

Couldn't TMZ have found a more useless clip? This one shows a tire in the stands.

Looks like a highway accident when the NASCAR fans leave a race after drinking in the sun all day.I like the guy who says there we go,when he see's the accident starting to happen. This validates that the "fans " go there to look for accidents.Hell, just go to a demolition derby.Cheaper.

Um, folks, it wasn't just the people sitting by the fence that were injured. There were also injuries on on an upper level. (Though since the car went up on the fence, I imagine some of the worst were nearby, but I don't think NBC had mentioned where the tire landed when I had read the article earlier. I'm sure that caused a couple of severe injuries.)

Terrible situation, for all the injured fans, and especially the 14 year old, can't imagine having that happen to your kid, though we did have one here locally on the short 1/4 mile tracks, tire flew up into the crowd and caused some minor injuries
