ARRESTED

For Blowing Off Court Date

Rick Springfield
was arrested today on a bench warrant stemming from his DUI case.

A rep for the L.A. County Sheriff's Department tells TMZ, deputies went to Rick's L.A. home this morning to execute the warrant ... but by the time he was being booked, Rick's attorney had the warrant recalled. Rick was subsequently released.

Rick posted an update on his Facebook from the Lost Hills sheriff station, writing, "I didn't know that I was supposed appear in court a few weeks ago. It was to do with the old DUI charge and it's been cleared up and I am free to go."

The bench warrant was issued Wednesday after Springfield failed to show up to court in February, when a rep for the court says he was supposed to show proof he completed an alcohol education program. Rick was also supposed to pay $1,555 in fines.

Springfield was ordered to complete the alcohol program as part of a plea deal he struck with prosecutors to keep his ass out of jail.

It all stems from Springfield's DUI arrest back in May 2011 -- when cops pulled over the singer's 1963 Corvette Stingray in Malibu ... and smelled booze.  Law enforcement sources told TMZ Rick threatened to kill the deputy and his family if he had the car towed.

As for today's arrest -- we're told Rick didn't threaten anyone.

Could have been a decent rocker ...but someone told him he was a heartthrob and someone else told him synthesizers were not "cheesy", the rocking part was over after Working Class Dog. Its not too late, however, to work on being a decent humble nice person.

Rick Springfield is a pugnacious, pompous, rude and ignorant simpleton who threatens a peace officer?! The last time I checked this is a blatant and egregious offense which is a FELONY. Why was he NOT arrested for this threat as well as the DUI??

So, the Sheriff's actually went to his home to serve an arrest warrant? WTF? I guess if he traveled across the world and lost his passport missing court would have been a non issue. Funny how he was arrested after his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! He is lucky that he was not a drunk and disoriented black female. The Malibu Sheriff's would have dump her off at the bottome of a hill and her skeletal remains would have been found a year later!

In the future Rick, even if you have not complied with the courts recommendations, go anyway. Judges do not take kindly to "failures to appear"! I love your ass!

Musician and actor Rick Springfield was recently arrested because of a bench warrant which was issued because he failed to appear in court. Springfield was to appear in court with evidence that he had completed an alcohol education program which was a requirement for a plea agreement from a previous DUI arrest. When this situation occurs in Virginia, the Judge will often either issue a capias or a show cause. However, often an attorney can have these later dismissed depending on the cir***stances. It is also worth noting that Springfield threatened to kill the deputy and his family if he had his car towed. This sort of behavior can have an extremely detrimental impact, often making it more difficult to have a favorable resolution of the case.
