UPDATE:  5:28 PM PDT:  The list has just gotten longer.  We've learned Britney Spears and Donald Trump have also been hacked.

Twelve big celebs and political figures, including Jay-Z, Beyonce, are the victims of a hacker who has posted detailed information about what appears to be their finances ... and we've learned law enforcement is on the case.

A website -- we're not disclosing the name -- has posted social security numbers, mortgage amounts, credit card info, car loans, banking and other info of major celebs.  In addition to Beyonce and Jay-Z ... the site has snagged financial dossiers of Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, Ashton Kutcher, Joe Biden, Robert Mueller, Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck.

The site was not able to get a lot on Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton, but most of the others on the list have had their financial info compromised.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the LAPD has already launched an investigation.  We're told the FBI is looking into it.

Posting personal stuff is wrong, but SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS is BEYOND a breach in privacy. That is just horrible, celebrity or not. They entertain us, they're not murderers or child molesters, why treat them w/such hate?

Well, at least we now know Jay-Z has more money than the rest of the list combined it would seem! (except Hillary and Joe who haven't had their finances exposed).

I've seen the site. It wouldn't be ethical to share the website publicly. I can say, however, that the site is revealing enough and moderately interesting.

Most of the phone numbers listed are those of attorneys and relevant contacts, not necessarily direct lines to the individuals them selves. Aside from that, other information includes mostly debts, such as mortgages and credit cards. I don't mind sharing that just about everyone's credit is at least satisfactory. I was surprised at how low some mortgage payments are, and how high certain credit card debts are.

Altogether just basic private information that most of us wouldn't want shared publicly. Nothing profoundly interesting there to be seen unless you're into finances or are a really stupid criminal interested in stealing a celebrity's identity.

Twenty years ago people thought they had a right to know how I voted. I even saw a segment of sesame street teaching kids it's okay t o ask because everyone should know you..
Now people know everything about you so stop whining. Especially when the whining is coming from those who spread the notion every time they were on TV or in a movie.

I can't imagine that Paris Hilton still has that much money left. It seems like she blows through it pretty quickly and she really hasn't done anything lately. I'd be interested to see what her finances look like.

oh come one. some buffoon really thinks these people have everything in one bank account and regulate their finances with a single printed from an atm bank statement or perhaps by balancing their check books. ok, wiseguy, i believes ya... not. if you got a hold of their finances, you're printer would be still running, hours later, collecting info from probably 200 different banks from all over the world. stupid.
