1:00 PM PT  Equifax -- a credit reporting agency used by the hackers to access celeb info -- has released a statement acknowledging a security breach, saying, "Equifax can confirm that fraudulent and unauthorized access to four [celebrity] consumer credit reports has occurred.”

The FBI is warning celebrity hacking victims to put safeguards on their bank accounts NOW ... before the hackers rob them blind ... TMZ has learned.

Sources close to several of the targeted celebs -- which include Mel Gibson, Hulk Hogan, Kim Kardashian, and Beyonce -- tell us FBI agents have advised them to contact their financial institutions to slap fraud alerts on their accounts immediately.

We're told the fraud alert ensures the bank will contact the account holder anytime someone accesses the funds. The celebs are then expected to immediately contact the FBI.

The only good news for at least two of the celebs is we're told the FBI said no money has been stolen. Yet.

Between beyonce and jay-z they made like 150 million last year. WHO NEEDS THAT MUCH MONEY!? All of these people have all the money - this is why WE don't have much. If they get robbed - that person is just going to keep the money anyway - and get busted. I already know how this story will end... The celebrities will be taken care of anyway because they have/had money in the first place - just saying.

I am calling bs on this story - Hulk Hogan and the Kardashian's are not celebrities. The fake wrestler's primary source of income of late comes from filing frivolous lawsuits so there's no money there.

Easiest part of the job for the hacker is getting handed all the info he'll ever need by the banks, financial institutions, etc... by their own employees.

Clues to secure your PC:

Using Internet Explorer go to "Tools" and then "Internet Options".

Under "Internet Options", go to "Privacy"; and within "Privacy" go to ""Advanced".
In "Advanced" check "Override automatic cookie handling" and "BLOCK" both first and third party cookies.

Next in "Privacy" check "never allow websites to request your physical location" and "Turn on Pop-up Blocker".

Now in "Sites" you enter a website and check BLOCK OR ACCEPT. ACCEPT ONLY WHAT YOU TRUST.

In "Settings" (for Pop-Up Blocker") enter websites of only Trusted Website Pop-Ups.

A good Virus checker etc. can also do the trick. Use a Firewall as well. Some Total Protection Anti-Virus programs include Firewalls and etc.

I think a young Republican has been assigned the task of gathering and releasing confidential information to a third party for negative publicity.
