Nigel Lythgoe

I WOULD Let Justin Bieber

Mentor 'Idols', BUT ...

3/31/2013 7:14 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

033113_nigel_lythgoe_launchJustin Bieber's recent wave of d-bag shenanigans has not gone unnoticed in the music world ... so when we asked "American Idol" honcho Nigel Lythgoe if the Biebs was "Idol" mentor material, his response was ... mixed.

Nigel was out in Malibu and our photog questioned whether Lythgoe would consider having JB on the show to help shape the minds of "AI" hopefuls. A valid question in light of Bieber's recent run of speeding tickets, fights, drugs, monkey smuggling ... you get it.

Nigel's response is pretty hilarious and he also addressed whether or not Nicki Minaj is welcome back on the show next season.

If you watch the video, this guy didn't say anything negative about JB or Niki. Only negative spin is TMZ's imagination.

Your camera man had no idea who Herman's Hermits were. That is too bad. Lythgoe called out Peter Noone and your camera man ignored it.

He doesn't have enough life experience to mentor anyone. Anyone that can't keep their pants up without holding them up should go back to grrrrrrranimals.

He probably gets his important news from TMZ so obviously he accepts as gospel everything they say about Justin Bieber.

i don't understand do you people not judge the people on the show when they sing on American idol? you do a pretty good job of judging Nicki and Justin. Regardless of what you think someone is buying their music which is more we can say for any of y'all wack ass people. Nicki's critiques on the show have been the best this season and if Justin was on the show we'd see if he was a good judge or not stop making sad comments on their sexuality or their gender just because your struggling at home and they're out there making a living. You don't need grammys to be able to tell whether or not someone can sing. grow up

Food for thought...Justine should set aside some of his loot and buy a Burger King franchise or two. That way when her time in entertainment is up, she will have a job....and a sweet nametag...and all the Whoppers she can eat...LOOOOOOLZ!!!!

Nigel's response was neither 'hilarious', nor enlightening... good try (not).

Sorry, double negative. Should have used 'or', not 'nor'. OK, I'm anal.

1. As Harvey himself pointed out - Nicki is the most refreshing person in the judge's chair since Simon Cowell, himself -

2. Justin Bieber is under incredible pressure and scrutiny - so are his friends.

None of us could handle the scrutiny/pressure - let alone a young guy who just turned 18 and is brilliant beyond belief.

We need to celebrate genius (Nicki/Justin) - not attack it.

If American Idol were a horse it would have a broken leg, be taken out behind the barn and shot as a mercy killing.

American Idol picked up two new divas this season and lost half its audience. The Voice got rid of two Divas and is picking up all those lost viewers.
The person who will benefit most from this seasons American Idol is who ever wins The Voice.

If Justin Bieber were a contestant on Idol he wouldn't even make it to Hollywood!

after being an IDOL fan from day1, I have not watched this season at all. Thugs like Nikki and Justin Bieber have no appeal.
