Kevin Ware

Walking on Crutches

After Gruesome Leg Injury

4/1/2013 10:50 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Just one day after Kevin Ware snapped his shinbone in what might've been the grisliest injury ever broadcast on TV, the Louisville guard is back on his feet ... with the help of crutches.

The 20-year-old was just photographed at an Indianapolis hospital looking surprisingly good ... his leg freshly bandaged after surgery.

In case you missed the game, Ware snapped his leg -- through his skin -- during Louisville's game against Duke yesterday. Ware was attempting to block a 3-point shot and landed wrong. Google at your own risk.

Ware underwent a two-hour procedure following the injury ... doctors had to insert a rod into his tibia ... but thankfully, everything went well.

The Louisville team physician has said he doesn't believe the injury will be career-ending ... but Ware's not playing ball anytime soon.

I hope he makes a complete recovery. but did you notice that his legs seem very skinny? a lot more skinny than your average basketball player? maybe that had something to do with his breaking his leg.

It was a horrible injury and to see the other team so upset, you know it had to be grisly. Glad he is doing better and that his team eeked out the win!

The fact that ge was laying there with his tibia literally protruding SIX INCHES, his teammates and coach fighting tears and vomit yet had Coach Pitino call the guys over and repeatedly tell them win the game is why ppl are calling him a hero of the game if basketball. That's an athletes heart. Ok and his body may have been in shock.

Just saying, Clint Malarchuck by far was the worst injury ever broadcast, as bad as this was it was not bad enough to pull a priest in to offer last rights. Clints injury was truely horriffic. google at your own risk.

It takes a lot of force to break that specific bone. Hope it wasn't a pathological fracture, which is indicative of a disease process.

i think the grisliest injury had to have been Buffalo Sabres Goalie Clint Malarchuk having his carotid artery torn open during an nhl game in 1989.

Anyone commenting on this should have to watch the injury. You have no business commenting on something you are afraid to watch.

Clint malarchuck was the worst, got his neck slashed by a skate in a hockey game. the trainer saved his life by reaching into hisneck and pinchingthe artery. He skated off the ice himself because his mom was at the game and he didn't want her to see him die.

Your S&M Girlfriend

I am a fan of college hoops and look forward to March Madness but was busy with family and food yesterday. The people who were watching the game were upset by his injury. This one time I'm glad I missed the game. Prayers for him to heal quickly and completely.
