Jay-Z and Beyonce

Blasted for 'Ignorant and

Insulting' Cuban Vacation

4/5/2013 3:20 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0405-beyonce-jay-z-apJay-Z and Beyonce are clueless about the tortures happening in Cuba, and it's insulting they chose to visit the communist country for a celebration ... so says a Cuban rights lobbyist.

Mauricio Claver-Carone, the D.C. director for the US-Cuba Democracy PAC -- a group committed to fighting for democracy in Cuba -- tells TMZ the A-listers should've educated themselves about what's really going on there before taking photo ops.

Jay and Bey were photographed Thursday in Havana -- reportedly to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary -- but have since come under fire from some Cuban-American groups.

US citizens are still technically banned from traveling to the island purely for tourism ... and are supposed to obtain a travel license from the US government.

Mauricio says he's disappointed the superstars chose to vacay in Cuba because, "There are women getting beaten on a daily basis, women who are being jailed for no reason ... people are fighting for their freedom. It’s extremely insensitive."

We reached out to Beyonce and Jay-Z for comment. So far ... nada back.

Some celebs believe they are above the law (not all but some). I think we are greatly to blame, we put too much value on these folks and pay them way too much. Until we start to say we are ot dropping 400.00 a ticket to watch you sing, things will never change.

I bet these representatives buy their communist Chinese products like the rest of Americans and turn a blind eye to China's human rights abuses

It doesn't seem possible that they would have been granted a license for "a full-time schedule of educational exchange activities" -- which is, as far as I know, the only way to get a license to travel to Cuba.

So, HOW, exactly, did they get licensed to travel to Cuba? Could it be their unwavering support for (and massive donations to) Obama?

Pitbull wasn't invited. He has to live with the rabid anti-Castro crazies in Miami. Good thing they stopped bombing everyone who disagrees with them. My brother has been to Cuba several times. You go there and help your family out, not spout out the mouth sanctimonious crap because Beyonce and Jay-Z went where they were invited. It's insane that someone from a free country needs an invitation to go to a no longer closed one. FYI, Cubans are free to travel anywhere now. My relatives have been to the US from Cuba even before that restriction lifted. And they went back. Imagine that.

Don't worry, it's simple liberal democrat elitism. Barry's got them covered. They don't need to follow the same laws that we do.

Say the same thing about Wal-Mart and buying all their goods from China, whose human rights violations far surpass Cuba. Yeah...chew on that!

Jay-z and Beyonce are not the ones to blame, tons of college students go to cuba for spring break. And it's actually a common thing to do on spring break.
