Commits Suicide

breaking news

0406-getty-pastor-rick-warrenThe youngest son of Saddleback Valley Community Church pastor Rick Warren has committed suicide after a long battle with mental illness.

Pastor Rick made the announcement Saturday at his church in Lake Forest, CA. He informed members of his congregation that his son Matthew took his own life Friday night. He was 27.

The church also released a statement, saying, "Matthew was an incredibly kind, gentle and compassionate young man whose sweet spirit was encouragement and comfort to many. Unfortunately, he also suffered from mental illness resulting in deep depression and suicidal thoughts.”

Rick is famous on the evangelical circuit -- he's the author of numerous Christian books, including "The Purpose Driven Life," which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. He also founded Saddleback Church in 1980, the 8th largest church in the U.S.

Funny how some of these Christian bashers never say a harmful word about Islam. Probably because they are scared of what will happen if they insult Mohammed. You know, because it's such a peaceful religion and all. It only tells its followers to kill non-believers. Not spread the word of Islam, but KILL non-believers.

How judgemental ppl are, who cares if he is a christian or not, the fact is that his family list a loved one, and for those of u who want to say dumb ****, shame on u! Hopefully u never have to go through what him and his family are going through. Look at ur pathetic life and make changes to stop being so hateful. It might make u a better person.

Depression shouldn't be treated like a shameful thing. It's not related to religion, so stop cramming God down these depressed people's throats. No need to make life more difficult.

Christians, not just religious fanatics, can get many people to monitor the depressed person and seek immediate help for their relatives instead of just praying for danger & death to not happen. Religious people aren't
servants to any "God"; they chose to read the bible written by other HUMAN BEINGS, not God. Bibles are not dictionaries and if depressed people feel guilty for feeling suicidal, they'd feel even worse if they think they betray "God" too. .

Some of the comments in here are ignorant, just disgusting. I too, read purpose driven life during one of the darkest points in my life and it helped me immensely. Nobody ever said those who believe in Christ are exempt from the problems and struggles in this world. My thoughts are with the Warren family and I pray for comfort and peace for them in the midst of this terrible event,

I am catholic, straight, very conservative and old fashioned (yes, I consider marihuana a psychotic drug). But even someone from the 14 th century like me knows that people are either born straight or gay. I have been going to this mega christian church that I thought was more open minded than mine and the friend who brought me there (who has a master's degree and is very nice and smart) told me that "God doesn't make mistakes and any gay person can become straight if they want" I was speechless. I guess I am not going back to any church now.

Prayers to the family is really all that I can offer......And the reality that there but for the Grace of God anyone could take that path and sometimes even that is not enough for some.

The Rev. Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest and one of America's most influential Christian leaders, has embarked on an effort to heal divisions between evangelical Christians and Muslims by partnering with Southern California mosques and proposing a set of theological principles that includes acknowledging that Christians and Muslims worship the same God.

The effort, informally dubbed King's Way, caps years of outreach between Warren and Muslims. Warren has broken Ramadan fasts at a Mission Viejo mosque, met Muslim leaders abroad and addressed 8,000 Muslims at a national convention in Washington D.C.

Rick Warren preaches salvation without repentance or discipleship or belief in the resurrection of Christ. What God he serves might as well be Allah for all anyone knows. He serves the God of money, fame, and popularity.

He teaches belief without justification. He is a cult leader. I would run from his teachings and seek the real answers.

"Warren teaches that God 'created the church to meet your five deepest needs' just as the Roman Catholic Church says, 'The Church is the mother of all believers.' Warren, like Rome, has switched from obedience to the Word and Person of the Living God to submission to a church to achieve one's needs. It is the oldest and cleverest temptation known to man."—Richard Bennett, The Adulation of Man in the Purpose-Driven Life
