Garth Brooks

SUED ...

Shameless As A Man Can Be

4/15/2013 10:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Garth Brooks
has friends in low places because he's one of the lowest human beings on the planet ... according to a lawsuit filed by his former business partner.

Lisa Sanderson -- who worked with Garth for 20 years -- claims in her uber-colorful lawsuit that -- although Brooks passes himself off as "a humble and highly principled 'everyman'" -- he's actually a "paranoid, angry, deceitful and vindictive man who will turn against those closest to him on a dime."

Sanderson alleges she was a successful TV producer whom Brooks lured to jump start his TV and movie career.  But she claims Brooks was his own worst enemy, killing deals with Disney, Fox and others by making ridiculous demands.

Sanderson says Brooks torpedoed a bunch of great opportunities because of his unbridled megalomania.  For example, she says Brooks was offered an acting gig to appear as a sniper in "Saving Private Ryan," but he refused because "he wanted to be the star and was unwilling to share the limelight with ... Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, and Edward Burns."

And then there was the movie "Twister."  Sanderson says Brooks nixed a chance to play a bad guy because he didn't want to play second fiddle to a tornado.

As for Sanderson, she says Brooks screwed her in the salary, bonus and profits department, allegedly lying to her about the pot of gold she'd get if she stuck around.

In the lawsuit, filed by Marty Singer and Allison Hart, Sanderson wants $425,000 in unpaid bonus and salary, as well as punitive damages.

Oh yeah ... she also says Garth is a tax fraud.

1:45 PM PT -- A spokesperson for Red Strokes Entertainment Inc. has issued a statement on behalf of Brooks ... "Mr. Brooks, of course, denies everything in the lawsuit filed today by Lisa Sanderson. Mr. Brooks and Red Strokes Entertainment Inc. will continue to take the necessary steps toward resolving this matter through the legal system."

I used to work in a record store. There was that time in the early 90s when Garth Brooks tried to get the music industry to stop music stores from selling used cds because Garth didn't make any money off of those sales. Also, the time when Garth Brooks put all of his albums in a cheap box set at Wamart (each box sold counted 5 albums sold) just so he could bump his "albums sold" number in America to more than the Beatles. So yeah, the guy is a tool. A very rich tool.

Never liked the guy. Always seemed he tried too hard. His songs were sappy and seemed to be trying to be 'deep'. He should have stayed with songs like Friends in low places. LOL
Then there was that weird crap with his alter ego.
Nasty stuff with wives. Doesn't seem to be a nice guy.

Seriously? She worked for him for twenty years and now she is suing him? She is the one who stayed. If she was that smart in the first place she would have high tailed it out of there a long time ago. She sounds like she is trying to milk as much money out of him as possible. She also making a lot of crazy claims. It seems like maybe he fired her and she got vengeful. I really don't think that Garth Brooks is that great ever since he took back his donation to a hospital when they said that they wouldn't name a wing after his mother. Maybe if he donated the money after that to another worthy cause... a lot of news stories are so slanted. They don't report on the good stuff so that they can portray people in certain lights. I don't know. But this story sounds bogus.

As someone who has lived down the road from Garth for the past 5 years, I will say first hand there's not a more friendly guy than him. The first time I talked to him I just wanted to say hello but we ended up talking for 20 minutes.

Then she should have quit. If he is your client fire him, if he's not bringing you money. its very simple

Garth Brooks was the biggest marketing phenom ever, with very little talent.

None of this is news. I for one always knew he was a self important jerk. His ego was off the chart before he cheated on his wife and did that stupid alter ego deal that never made any sense.

This is really no suprise coming from a guy who ruined Tanya Tuckers career by promoting his own album and ignoring hers, when he took over Capital Records Company, and from a guy who demanded royalties from used C/D and record sales when he had already been paid royalties when the releases were new. He is greedy and also lacked the talents demonstrated by real country greats. He was all lights and smoke and mirrors.

Invite her out of the country... then, WHAMMO!

oh, please. I work in the film industry and worked at at studio where they had a project. Lisa was and is practically a nobody. The only reason she had any clout at all was because of Garth. In addition, his not wanting to be in Twister or Saving Private Ryan had nothing to do with her projects with him. She wouldn't have been brought on as a producer on those projects even if he had decided to do them. She should take responsibility for the projects that she shared with him - none of which got made.
