Bob Weir

Grateful Dead Guitarist

Collapses On Stage

4/26/2013 8:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Bob Weir -- founding member of the Grateful Dead who now plays guitar for spinoff band Furthur -- had to be helped offstage last night in Port Chester, NY, after collapsing during a song after suffering some serious pain in his shoulder.

The band, which also features former Dead bassist Phil Lesh, was playing the Dead song "Unbroken Chain" when Weir wobbled for a few moments before going down (00:45 mark in the video).

Weir was immediately helped up by crew members and given a chair to sit in on stage. The band finished the song with Weir ... but helped him off the stage as soon as the jam ended.

Lesh returned to the stage moments later and said Weir had been bothered by a strained shoulder. They finished the set without him.

The band is scheduled to play Saturday night in Atlantic City -- no word yet on whether the show will go on.

Looks like it was the result of sheer boredom.
I'll be humming that god-awful, mediocre, garage jam band tune the rest of the day.

Bob Weir joined the Grateful Dead in 1965 at 17 years old. He has been on the road playing consistently over 150 nights a year for almost 50 years. And every show, every show, is sold out. Still. He is a legend. You can say you don't appreciate the music but to say anything negative about the man is beyond disrepectful.

He had a sprained shoulder from working out, and then apparently took Ambien instead of pain killers by mistake, according to band members this afternoon.

I was at the show . Bobby took an ambien instead of a painkiller is all that happened Thursday night . This man has performed more than anyone like ever . He's been touring since he was a teenager & he's 65 or something . They formed I think 1962 & became the Grateful Dead in 1965 . This man is a musical and lyrical legend , a founding member of the ****ing grateful dead !!! BTW , if any of you care , I saw the other shows at this venue and there were like 8 or so other shows where they were amazing ! Everyone was on point , excellent performances . Feel better man

HARVEY, how can you let your people talk negative about anything to do with the Grateful Dead? That band and most of the Dead Heads were for Gay rights long before it even became a big thing. Not even to mention the music is actual music. Give Bob Weir a break. This isn't the first time your people tried to make an ass out of him. Remember there are HEADS that are DEAD and then Dead Heads two very different things. the more i watch TmZ it looks more like Heads that are DEAD...

When I was a teen and heard the title of this band greatful dead I had a bad feeling of their title. Now I learned the truth about theses guys. They had put children through torture and even burned them and more. Robin sylvester literally had childrens eyes implanted into his face wich is the mark of the beast
