Steve Nash's Ex-Wife

He's Banning Me From L.A. to Avoid Child Support

5/24/2013 4:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0524-steve-nash-wife-tmz-getty
Steve Nash is making a full-court press to block his ex-wife from moving from Phoenix to L.A. with their 3 kids so he can avoid paying child support ... this according to court docs filed by his ex.

Nash and his ex Alejandra are locked in a legal battle royale over where she's allowed to move.  Alejandra wants to relocate from Phoenix to L.A. ... so the kids can be closer to Steve.   But the b-baller has vigorously tried to block the move, which is curious because he famously chose the Lakers over the New York Knicks to be closer to the youngins.

Alejandra says Nash has told her he didn't want her to move out West because he might be traded or forced into retirement ... which would mean uprooting the family again.

But Alejandra says Nash is simply blowing smoke -- and that the REAL reason he wants her to stay put in PHX is because California courts are likely to impose huge child support obligations against him -- something the Phoenix courts have not done.

Alejandra claims Steve is not paying a cent in child support ... zip, zero, zilch ... and he doesn't want to blow a good thing.

Alejandra says Steve's admitted that living so far from the kids is tough on him and them ... and it would be better for everyone if they could spend more time together ... but his desire to save a few bucks on child support is trumping his obligation to his family.

For now ... a judge has issued a restraining order, prohibiting Alejandra from moving West until their trial, which is scheduled for next week.

You people are so ignorant. Child support is something mandated by the court in the case of a useless parent. Just because he's not mandated to pay child support doesn't mean he's not supporting his children. I'm sure he pays for everything his children could possibly want. I agree with Nash on not wanting his ex to move to LA. He'd probably have to pay, at minimum, $5000 a month in child support. What does the fact that he makes millions have to do with a $5,000/month child support payment that will not even benefit the children, only the ex-wife who will spend it frivolously. Forget the fact that Nash will pay for their entire colleges and ensure they have the means to be successful, no, the ex-wife wants extra money fro herself. That's why the system is broke. Child support is for exactly that, to SUPPORT the child, not the parent.

If she moves to Cali, she can file for discovery in that state, and if that is where he has permanent residence, Cali will have jurisdiction on determining child support, because they will also have jurisdiction on enforcement. If he is already paying for part of the kids' monthly expenses per an earlier divorce decree or custody agreement, he should just purchase a decent home in Phoenix and call that his permanent residence, and Cali the temporary residence while he's working. I'm sure he'd already have done so if that were an option, though.

That judge is WRONG! His ex-wife poses no danger to Steve Nash.

I laugh at you foolish Americans. You brag about your freedoms, and then you have the nerve to tell a law-abiding, American woman where she can and cannot live. Priceless.

I don't believe in this day and age that Arizona has not tapped him for child support! And if he lives in LA the court will probably up the amount whether the kids and mom live here or not! I had a friend whose ex-wife and kids live in Texas and he was paying Texas rates and when CA gets involved it goes up!

This story is stinky! And I don't believe his is not paying child support. And if he is just paying her money and not going through the court system and not keeping good records they could dunn him for back child support.

No one should pay child support without going through the SYSTEM!

This is why he's not paying child support you morons. "Nash gave Alejandra a $5 million settlement and gives her $30,000 per month. Nash also says he pays for the kids’ medical expenses, private schools, extracurricular activities and pays most of their nanny’s $2,000 per month salary" She's just digging for gold here.
