Esther Williams
-- the HUGE movie star who became internationally famous with her spectacular, synchronized swimming routines -- is now making a splash ... in heaven.  She died today, at 91.

Williams starred in countless swimsuit spectaculars in the 40's and 50's --  "aquamusicals" as they were called -- where MGM honchos made any excuse to get her girl-next-door good looks and bangin' bod into the water.  Movies like "Neptune's Daughter" and "Dangerous When Wet" were every guy's wet dream.

Esther started as a legit competitive swimmer, smashing records in her late teens ... but she missed the 1940 Olympics because of the outbreak of World War II. So she joined a music, dance and swimming show in San Fran ... where for five months she swam alongside Olympic swimmer and "Tarzan" star Johnny Weissmuller ... and that's where she caught the eye of Hollywood scouts.

In her later years, Williams lent her name to swimwear and other pool-related products, and was a commentator for synchronized swimming at the '84 Olympics.

That chick really knew how to sync and swim.

RIP Esther.

Many here are not old enough to remember the fantastic movies you made or just how effortless you made swimming appear. If you get the chance to see some of the old movies, take the time to watch them. Beautiful and it took a great athlete to make it look so easy.

OooooNooo!

Not only swim wear, she also sold her name to a line of swimming pools in the 1960...'s. Smart lady who milked her name and good looks for all it was worth. It didn't hurt that she had an amazing rack in a swim suit. (oYo)

They don't make them like Esther anymore! She led a scandal free life. I often wonder what her life was like, with volatile Fernando Lamas.(he was a romantic lead actor, i n case you don't know.) She was special. Another great has left us.

What an awesome broad she was! Lovely, athletic, and hysterically funny off -stage, although she admitted she couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag. Here's to a long life well and fully lived; rest in peace, beautiful Esther.

Lorenzo Lamas' step mother. Gorgeous actress, good old fashioned hard work and integrity made her who she was. Watch her amazing movies the way movies used to be. Beautiful and talented, EW rest in peace.
