7:45 AM PT --
Chad and his attorney are back in front of the judge ... apologizing ... and desperately trying to convince the judge to accept the original terms of the deal.

Chad Johnson
was just kicked out of a Florida courtroom ... after the former NFL star playfully slapped his male lawyer's ass -- a move that ENRAGED the judge, TMZ has learned.

Johnson was in court in Broward County, FL to face the judge for his recent probation violation in his domestic violence case.

During the hearing, the judge and Chad's lawyer were about to finalize the terms of Chad's punishment -- terms that were pretty favorable to Chad.

But the whole thing fell apart at the last minute, when the judge asked Chad if he was satisfied with his attorney -- and the ex-NFL star reached back and playfully slapped his lawyer's ass.

Chad smiled ... the court erupted with laughter .... but the judge wasn't amused.

In fact, the judge found the move disrespectful -- and lashed out at Johnson ... asking him if the whole proceeding was a "joke" to him.

Johnson replied, "I had no intent to make this a joke, because my life is in shambles right now."

The judge -- who lost her patience -- suddenly announced that Chad's deal was OFF ... and kicked him out of the courtroom.

Story developing ...

Johnson did a innocent thing in court by saying thank you to his attorney but the judge staff was very unprofessional and instead of punishing her staff she punishes the wrong person.

Normally I don't like Chad Johnson but seriously he was basically patting him on the back for being a good lawyer (what the judge said) but he obviously was too low. I don't think he meant it disrespectfully and they judge over reacted. But hey I won't complain too much a woman beater is in jail where he belongs!

So this athlete who was on probation and assaulted his wife was granted a plea deal of only community service and mandatory counseling. Assaulted his wife. And yet his biggest punishment is not for a violent crime, but for inappropriate courtroom behavior.

I am definitely not a fan of Mr Johnson but I think he was BURNED! In his environment a slap on the backside is a sign of respect and the juveniles in the court room who snickered like grade schoolers who hear the word boob should be mortified,

IMO, the judge has the duty of protecting cost and not over charging tax payers for ridiculous and unnecessary punishment. The judge only placed more burdens on the expenses of the tax payers. If she felt so disrespected, have the guy to clean the courthouse bathrooms for a week or so but jail should be reserved for those who pose a threat to society not for the judges need for respect...should we respect our judges, by all means yes but I don't think he meant it as any disrespect towards her or her courtroom.
I believe this shows a lack of respect to the citizens of Florida who fund the inmate population through tax dollars. It is unnecessary punishment. I believe for the most part, "let the punishment fit the crime." Jail time does not even fit his lame crime...if one wants to call it crime.
If she felt so strongly about this, she should have said , "look, we are not finished, you will spend your day scrubbing toilets, emptying trash and mopping floors." But jail time, nooooo......all that cleaning alone would have taught him a lesson about respecting the court room...placing him in jail over something petty will only cause him and others to disrespect her as a judge even more.

Bottom line is a civilised person knows when it is appropriate to do something like this and when it is not. He is there asking for a plea bargain on a domestic assault case and In THE COURTROOM, demonstrated that he cannot be a proper judge on what is appropriate physical contact with another human. She is right to deny the plea bargain.

I'm not saying what he did was right but i think the judge overreacted. He didn't do what he did for laughs he did it to show how much he appreciated his lawyer. That's the same as a woman hugging her lawyer people just express their feeling in different ways.

Someone should report this judge to the Florida judicial disabilities commission, or whatever body there polices the judge's conduct. This person clearly does not have the temperament required for the bench. She should have banged the gavel once and said "C'mon people I want to finish today" or something like that. 30 days. Outrageous. Evil, maybe.
