Chad Johnson
was just kicked out of a Florida courtroom ... after the former NFL star playfully slapped his male lawyer's ass -- a move that ENRAGED the judge, TMZ has learned.

Johnson was in court in Broward County, FL to face the judge for his recent probation violation in his domestic violence case.

During the hearing, the judge and Chad's lawyer were about to finalize the terms of Chad's punishment -- terms that were pretty favorable to Chad.

But the whole thing fell apart at the last minute, when the judge asked Chad if he was satisfied with his attorney -- and the ex-NFL star reached back and playfully slapped his lawyer's ass.

Chad smiled ... the court erupted with laughter .... but the judge wasn't amused.

In fact, the judge found the move disrespectful -- and lashed out at Johnson ... asking him if the whole proceeding was a "joke" to him.

Johnson replied, "I had no intent to make this a joke, because my life is in shambles right now."

The judge -- who lost her patience -- suddenly announced that Chad's deal was OFF ... and kicked him out of the courtroom.

Story developing ...

Honestly the judge went overboard. Yes it's a court of law. Yes, he was showing affection the way he would on the field. She should have either warned him or given him community service. Looks like she may have just been looking for something to send him to jail.

Racial-profiling, courtroom-style.

Knew he was coming in -

"Read up" on him.

Had a pre-conceived notion of who he was/is.

When the opportunity presented itself -

She took it.

I agree that in-and-of itself the act alone was not a big deal. There may be more to the story and that was her last straw. Maybe he was casual, laughing, fooling around during the entire proceedings. I don't know. If that was the only act of disrespect then I would say she overreacted. Lots of people hug/high-five/fist bump their lawyers in a final gesture of "thank you." Sounds like this was maybe a string of actions that made her blow a gasket...just sayin'

I feel bad for him. Having been on the field for years slapping someone on the backside after an impressive performance is normal, and probably a natural response for him by now. I don't think he meant any disrespect or humor at all.

If the lawyer was any good, he would have made the argument that Chad was an athlete and that is how athletes show their approval to each other. But, the lawyer sucks and Chad is where he belongs. Even though it is a little unfair to punish Chad because everyone else laughed, he has already shown a blatant disregard for the law by not abiding by the terms of his probation. He is where he belongs.

All these fools like Chad 30 are miscreants who have no respect for anyone or anything -including themselves. Glad the Judge got the last laugh - was hoping he would have reacted in court so the Judge could have extended his Broward resort stay. Oh well - Obama welfare beckons.

I think this Judge is taking this very seriously because he is there over a domestic violence issue. He should have waited to slap his lawyers butt until he was out of the courtroom. When the courtroom broke out in laughter it pissed off the Judge because domestic violence is a VERY serious problem in this country. HIS OWN FAULT!!! Maybe he will take his charges and a courtroom more seriously from now on. Cant say I'm sorry he has to spend 30 days in jail.

I think many people seem to be missing the point. He's on probation for domestic battery and didn't check in with is probation officer last month. That's the whole reason he was in court this morning in the first place. Even if he hadn't done anything wrong today, he was still facing months in jail for probation violation. That judge didn't owe him any favors and was about to do him a huge one by keeping him out of jail. He pissed her off and she decided she didn't feel like helping him out. I don't blame her one bit, but don't be confused... he's going to jail for failing to check in with his PO, NOT for smacking his lawyer.

He was not being rude. He has messed up and that is why he is in the court room, but how she reacted to that incident was not ok. He did not laugh about it, it looked like he hadn’t even realized other people seen it and laughed. That Judge was out of line and I think that incident needs to be reviewed by her Superiors.

It was her staff laughing, sanctions against the judge for over stepping. I am absolutely not a fan of Chad but it's stupid actions like this that has our jails and prisons busting at its seems with overcrowding. Apathetic judge.

WOW....this video shows chad johnson to be using a common "done good" action towards his lawyer, only AFTER the judge has praised the lawyer's representation of chad johnson SEVERAL TIMES......it was ONLY because she/the judge had praised the lawyer several times, during which chad made no response, that he felt she was indicating to him that he should/could take some action, by words or otherwise, to praise his lawyer as well.
The judge was imo WAY, WAY OFF in her response to chad's pat of his lawyer......guys in sports do that without thinking of it as anything but appreciating the recipient's work/actions.
She was EXTRAORDINARILY out-of-line in this emotional response which implies she really knows little about, is ignorant of, differing actions of "praise" in communities other than the her own.. Chad did NOT look at the viewers behind him at ANY time.....which is what he would have done had he been attempting to show contempt for his lawyer, and/or the judge, and/or the courtroom, and/or the judicial process.
I hope his extreme punishment for the judge's ignorance is disputed legally.

(And I am not a football fan or a follower...)
