Chris Brown to L.A. City:

My Graffiti Is Protected

By the 1st Amendment!!

6/19/2013 1:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0506_chris_brown_graffiti_tmz_wmChris Brown is firing back at the City of L.A. -- claiming the gov. has NO RIGHT to force him to remove the graffiti art on the front of his L.A. home because it's protected by the 1st Amendment.

Brown just filed an appeal with the city -- telling officials the bill they're trying to stick him with for having an "unpermitted" mural on the front wall of his Hollywood Hills home is pure B.S..

According to the legal documents, obtained by TMZ, Brown claims the city is wrongly trying to nail him for having an illegal "sign" -- when the graffiti is art that "[enhances] the architectural and aesthetic features of the residential property."

Translation -- my artwork makes my house look dope, son!

Then Chris drops the constitutional bomb -- arguing, "The murals are a reflection of [my] aesthetic taste and a reflection of free speech and expression protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution."

Brown's case is now in the hands of the Dept. of Building and Safety's board of appeals -- and if they shut him down, he can bring the fight to L.A. County Superior Court.

In fact, there's a chance ... albeit a small chance ... that Brown's case could go all the way up to the Supreme Court if he's not willing to back down.

Chris Brown sent 15 kids in the Debbie Allen Dance Academy to college with FULL scholarships. He was only supposed to sent 7 but he sent double. He also OWNS a charity called symphonic love which endorses art and freedom of expression of kids who grew up in domestic violance homes. Symphonic Love donates thousands and thousands to other charities. Also, Chris donates almost ALL of his arts proceeds to charities and his art actually goes for fairly high prices dude. For all star weekend he didn't celebrate, he attended a charity even that raised thousands.

My wife and I were in the audience at the Billboard awards and Chris Brown was absolutely awful. He was so bad we were amazed that he had any career at all. I guess there is no talent required by Brown. By the way Chris, take down that ugly crap you call "art" and give the city and your neighbors a break. Why must you always be a jerk? With no talent.

Free speech? I hope all the neighbors paint big murals of Rihanna's beaten face--with the words, "Chris Brown, abuser at (address), did this."

OMG, some of y'all have nothing but hate in your heart for a man you don't even know! All the racist comments are not necessary. If you don't like him, why would you even look at anything that's about him? Obviously to do nothing but show your ignorance towards another human being! SMH...sad!

Sorry, no sale. He can do what he wants, as long as it doesn't damage those around him. And, tagging your home like the street trash that he is will lower his neighbors property values. I hope he spends all his money on this, because not only will he lose but he'll disappear...

When the hell journalists/writers/artists started using the 1st amendment to hide behind to do whatever they wanted, no clue. But read it, no where does it say you can paint your house and b/c you think it's art everyone else has to look at it. Or that b/c you're a "journalist" you can say whatever you want, true or not and get away with it. LOL

What a wonderful black male to have as your neighbor.

No what's that word that my parents used to say - but now we can't say it anymore???

Well. Chris Brown is that word.

I thought the issue wasn't with the city - but with his homeowners association(?) And if that's the case, he hasn't got a leg to stand on.

Also, his 'expression of personal taste' lowers the property value of EVERY house surrounding his.
Freedom of speech doesn't apply when you are costing your neighbors cold hard cash. He will lose.
