Chris Brown to L.A. City:

My Graffiti Is Protected

By the 1st Amendment!!

6/19/2013 1:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0506_chris_brown_graffiti_tmz_wmChris Brown is firing back at the City of L.A. -- claiming the gov. has NO RIGHT to force him to remove the graffiti art on the front of his L.A. home because it's protected by the 1st Amendment.

Brown just filed an appeal with the city -- telling officials the bill they're trying to stick him with for having an "unpermitted" mural on the front wall of his Hollywood Hills home is pure B.S..

According to the legal documents, obtained by TMZ, Brown claims the city is wrongly trying to nail him for having an illegal "sign" -- when the graffiti is art that "[enhances] the architectural and aesthetic features of the residential property."

Translation -- my artwork makes my house look dope, son!

Then Chris drops the constitutional bomb -- arguing, "The murals are a reflection of [my] aesthetic taste and a reflection of free speech and expression protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution."

Brown's case is now in the hands of the Dept. of Building and Safety's board of appeals -- and if they shut him down, he can bring the fight to L.A. County Superior Court.

In fact, there's a chance ... albeit a small chance ... that Brown's case could go all the way up to the Supreme Court if he's not willing to back down.

That is not responsible use of your 1st Amendment Right. What is the r\Reason Cause or Context for what amounts to civic disorder, vandalism, Graffiti of Residence, community disruption and manipulation of the law to defy public order? I think you can find a better way to express your talent in a pubic format.

You have a duty to be a responsible neighbor who respects the people around you. And they are suppose to respect you too.

Your art is more than incidental. It's creating continued public disturbances. That will make problems for you that you could easily avoid. Why subject your neighborhood to something like that?

All it takes is one awful neighbor to destroy an entire neighborhood.

Bottom line. Just because you can do something or have a right to doesn't always mean you should.

You know whats wrong with a lot of people today? They cant learn to tell themselves no. They don't how to tell themselves what they have done or had enough and stop.

It looks like you are making trouble. That's bad PR, even if you have a right to do it.

Unless you are making good trouble don't make trouble.

But you do have great artistic ability. Be responsible with it

I wonder how long it will take for his ass to get thrown in jail when the record companies stop bailing out his sociopathic ass? Can't argue much when you have some mediocre lawyer and not a professional BS artist like Mark Geragos.

This isn't the first batch of neighbors he's pissed off. Chris should try and get along better with his neighbors. Maybe if he had explained to his neighbors that this was an ongoing and ever-evolving art project, and charmed them a bit with a nice neighborly gift then they would have let it slide instead of calling code enforcement on him. But hey, why be cool when you can just be a douche, right Chris?

this guy might want to consult his lease agreement or buy his own property before spouting off 1st amendment rights.

he is probably one of these "freedom of speech" morons who think they can say anything to anyone and never have any accountability because in his interpretation of the constitution everything is taken literally

This has nothing to do with "freedom of expression". There are thousands of true artists out there who find ways of "expressing" themselves without devaluing the neighborhood. Or offending or bullying others.

lol

Like it or not it IS freedom of expression, he's doing this on private property. And it became a 1st amendment issue when the city of LA got involved, as long as it was between the HOA, the neighbors and Chris Brown it okay because they were private groups going at it.
