Serena Williams

Issues BS Statement

After Steubenville Rape Comments

Serena Williams isn't exactly apologizing for the incendiary comments she allegedly made about the Steubenville rape victim ... because she's not entirely sure she said them, at least that's the way it seems from the BS statement she just released.

Williams came under fire this week over an article printed in Rolling Stone ... in which the tennis superstar is quoted as saying, "[the Steubenville rape victim] shouldn’t have put herself in that position" on the night she was raped at a high school party.

But moments ago, Williams issued a statement on her website -- in which she takes NO responsibility for the comments ... and suggests she may not have ever said them at all.

"I am currently reaching out to the girl’s family to let her know that I am deeply sorry for what was written in the Rolling Stone article. What was written – what I supposedly said – is insensitive and hurtful, and I by no means would say or insinuate that she was at all to blame."

The statement begs the obvious question -- DID YOU MAKE THE COMMENTS OR NOT??

That "rape" victim ruined two young men's lives with her bs story. It was not rape and she asked for it. Read what happened and you'd agree. Just young kids drinking underage and can't hold their liquor. She was obviously easy anyways and had bad parenting.

to all the idiots that think the girl that was raped was not 50% at fault. think of it this way

you have $10,000 in cash. are you going to walk down the street holding out for everyone to see? no! why? because someone will take that from you because of your stupid desicion.

Perhaps if Serena Williams hadn't passed her teenage years being raised as a valuable commodity she would have more compassion. I doubt she was allowed to make any decisions as a teenager, let alone poor ones.

I am quite sure that if this had been any of your daughters you would not be saying that the victim was in the wrong. You are talking about a child!! She may not have even been a drinlker and didn't know how badly the alcohol would affect her. It is NEVER the victims fault and for anyone to think otherwise does not show a very compassionate or educated opinion.

I am quite sure that if that had been her daughter, she would be singing a different tune. That girl was a child!!! and the victim is NEVER at fault. Even suggesting so shows an inability to show compassion and a very limited educated opinion.

Put aside the appropriateness or inappropriateness of Serena’s recent comment. Williams never takes responsibility for her words or actions. She is claiming she didn’t say this – BS; at least own it. It is just like she never apologized for threatening a line judge at the US Open. It wasn’t her fault – “…it was an unfortunate incident brought about by a bad line call; I was caught up in the moment, like being in a car accident.” (Sorry – more of a paraphrase, not exact quote. Forgive the inexactness, but it is close composite of what she said.). She is a narcissist who thinks she does no wrong. What a horrible role model for young tennis players.

What next – is Serena going to blame Natalie Holloway for her death? Poor Vander Sloot, Natalie shouldn't ahve been in a club that night. Really???

I agree with Serena on one point, that girl should have never been in the position she was in. We live in the real world, and in the real world there are people who don't give a damn about violating you. A woman should be able to stand naked in front of a bunch of drunken men without being touched, but I don't know any woman with sense who'd take that risk. There are common sense things you can do to take precaution, and being passed out in a room full of strange men is not one of those precautions. You have to prepare for the world we live in, not for the utopia we wish to some day achieve

It doesn't sound to me like Serena is sympathizing with the attackers. She may have been able to choose better words if given time to compose an official statement. But on the spot, it seems she's just trying to say that there is responsibility for ALL people involved with what happened. Several bad decisions were made by both parties and unfortunately the outcome was inexcusable. I have compassion for the victim and the attackers were wrong and should be punished. It's sad though that the situation could easily been avoided. It's not like she was innocently walking to her car from the mall when it happened.
