James Gandolfini

No Evidence of

Drugs, Alcohol ... So Far

6/20/2013 6:25 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

0619-tmz-james-gandolfiniA doctor who runs the ER where James Gandolfini was taken before he was pronounced dead says there are no suspicious factors, such as alcohol, but the statement appears premature -- especially with respect to any drugs that might have been in the actor's system.

Professor Claudio Modini, the chief ER doc, says it looks like a heart attack, adding it was "probably a natural cause of death, myocardial infarction."

Gandolfini had acknowledged he had been addicted to cocaine and booze, and substance abuse played a part in his 2002 divorce.

As for the professor's tentative conclusion, it's premature to know if drugs or alcohol were a factor.  It's also unclear what -- if any -- toxicology tests will be performed on Gandolfini's body.

As we previously reported, Gandolfini died Wednesday in Italy while on vacation with his son. He had been staying at the Boscolo Hotel Exedra in Rome (pictured below).

Does it matter? Two children are without a father and a wife is crying trying to keep it together.

People die from heart attacks all the time and you don't see reports saying that there wasn't drugs or alcohol involved. This really isn't newsworthy.

After they look a little closer, they’ll find a few cigars, bourbon, and cocaine in his veins. There ain’t a clean entertainer in all of Hollywood.

Seems he was also addicted to food. The old "ticker" can only sustain so much cholesterol and inactivity.

Maybe he died on the treadmill or working out with the weights in the gym. Can’t be anything unhealthy like smoking, drinking, and couch potatoeness. I just now invented that word potatoeness.

There might not have been drugs in his body but years of Cocaine abuse was probably a big factor in his death. Regardless, still a sad story. RIP.

Maybe he just died from a MI, not drugs.

Why does TMZ have to say "so far". Sounds like these hypocrites have already made up their minds. We'll miss you James, you were one of the best.

He most likely had a clogged LAD artery. When it is covered in plaque and that bursts it causes a fatal Heart Attack. It's called the widow maker. That's what Rosie ODonnel had. If you get stents it opens up the artery. He probably had no idea he was ill. Some people get no symptoms or warnings or pass it off as indigestion or a pulled muscle. It radiates up the left arm. High blood pressure and heart disease are the silent killer.

"So far..." why not just say there's no evidence that he wasn't having sex with his son?
