Chris Brown

Probation Revoked

7/15/2013 2:02 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

That was quick -- the judge just REVOKED Chris Brown's probation in the Rihanna beating case, but the singer will remain a free man ... for now.

Brown showed up at court today to fight the L.A. County D.A.'s motion to revoke his probation in the wake of hit-and-run charges stemming from a car accident in May ... but the judge granted the motion anyway, paving the way for a probation violation hearing in August.

If the judge determines Chris violated his probation, the singer could be sentenced to 4 years in prison.

In the meantime, Brown has been released on his own recognizance.

OMG M. G. the brains of all the attorneys, so he thinks. He puts down other attorneys thinking he is the only bright one on the laws. But with the delay now, he will be set free.

You got to be kidding me? Chris Brown is a thug and all. I always though he should have served at least 10 years in jail for what he did to RiRi. But Zimmerman is walking around a free man while Chris Brown gets his probation revoked for hit and run.

WTF is going on in America?

2:30 PM PT -- The judge just REVOKED Chris Brown's probation, but the singer was not taken into custody. Instead, Brown has been released on his own recognizance, and was ordered to appear in court in August when the judge will determine whether he actually violated his probation.

In the meantime, Brown will have a chance to respond to the L.A. County D.A.'s allegations.

Brown's attorney Mark Geragos is expected to be holding a news conference outside his office in a few moments. We'll be livestreaming, so keep refreshing this post.

Chris Brown has just arrived at court to fight the L.A. County D.A.'s motion to revoke the singer's probation ... a move that could land Brown in prison for up to 4 years.

As we reported, the L.A. County D.A. has filed a request to revoke Brown's probation in the wake of hit-and-run charges that were filed against him, stemming from a car accident in May.

Brown allegedly left the scene without forking over a California driver's license and proper insurance info -- hence the hit-and-run allegations -- but as we reported, the victim doesn't want Brown prosecuted.

Brown's lawyer has since filed docs asking for the criminal case to be dropped -- but the D.A. is still moving forward because Brown has a duty to obey all laws as a condition to his probation in the Rihanna beating case.

If the judge finds that Chris violated his probation, the singer faces up to 4 years in prison.
