Amanda Bynes
is doing remarkably better ... she's stabilized, not hearing voices and it's all because of a cocktail ... TMZ has learned.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... doctors at the psychiatric hospital where she's being held have given her a combination of meds -- referred to as a cocktail -- to control what appears to be schizophrenia.

Our sources say Amanda responded quickly and dramatically.  We're told in the last 3 days, Amanda has stopped talking to herself and stopped insulting people. To the contrary, we're told she's become downright polite, even saying "please" and "thank you."  She has shown no signs of violence.

The progress is all the more stunning because these cocktails are notoriously difficult to gauge -- getting the right combination of meds with the right doses is something of a crap shoot.  Our sources say the meds take 7 to 10 days to fully kick in, so they're not declaring victory yet, but they're optimistic.

But there's an ironic twist.  Amanda is scheduled to have a court hearing today ... where she's trying to get out of the psych hospital. The fact that she's doing better can actually help her case, but we're told doctors are confident the judge will not let her out for several reasons.  First, it's unclear if the meds will work long-term.  Also, it's highly uncertain she'll voluntarily take the drugs.

One more thing.  There are reports Amanda's parents may back off the conservatorship if she does better in the psych ward.  Our sources say that is "absolutely untrue."  Amanda's parents feel it's essential for her to get long-term care and supervision.

I don't understand why people are saying she is "faking" it, and also saying she is out for drugs. this is not something that would be easy to fake for one, but even more pointless to fake, the drugs are not "fun" drugs, they don't get you high! YOU WOULD BE INSANE TO FAKE IT!! SO..... THERE YOU GO! PEOPLE NEED TO BE A BIT MORE OPEN MINDED TO THE FACT THAT NOT EVERYONE IS PERFECT! SOME PEOPLE HAVE REAL PROBLEMS!! NOT JUST YOUR MINIATURE CRYBABY CRAP!! MY PRAYERS ARE HER AND HER FAMILY. XOXO

Firstly, medication does not induce manners. Secondly, it doesn't matter how great the medicine, you will not have that sever immediate results within 72 hour time frame. Most can take up to 4-5 days before you start feeling the slight effect. Thirdly, I have seen this site use Amanda's mental illness for a joke and I think until you go through what people with mental illness's go through, you should not make any of it a joke. Sure her actions are a bit strange but that's expected from this kind of situation. And using someone's hospitalization just to make your money to blog and "report", that's just low. But this is what the world has come to.

I hope for Amanda's sake, that things start to work for her and she prepares herself to face this for the rest of her life. She was a beautiful smart girl who got lost. She'll find her way back and when she does, she'll be stronger than ever. And when all those paths come, you guys will find something new to laugh at. Whether it being her happy and not screwed up or someone elses life.

The world has become **** when they're media depends on these kinds of things. Everyone really needs to get a life and stop judging others who have fallen off the wagon a little. Or lot in this case. Either way, don't judge what you don't understand. And get a real job doing hard labor, not writing up stories about people's personal stuff just to make some easy bucks.

Lame a-holes. Don't like my opinion? Hold on. Let me try to find my "I give a f-ck" shirt.

Her parents should proceed with conservatorship as schizophrenics are notorious for noncompliance in medical treatment.
