Wayne Newton

65-ft. Luxury Yacht

Mysteriously Sinks

Wayne Newton's fancy boat is almost entirely underwater on Lake Mead, AZ ... and TMZ has the first pic of the sunken vessel.

Newton wasn't on board the 65-foot yacht when it went down while moored in a marina. The bow of the "Rendezvous" is all that's left above water right now.

It's a total mystery how the yacht suddenly sunk -- but a rep for the National Park Service tells TMZ the initial assessment  is some sort of equipment failure.

This is the latest financial catastrophe for Newton ... who was sued last year by an ex-business partner over failed plans to turn his former home into a museum.

The Park Service told us it will begin salvage operations on the yacht this week, and then park service rangers -- and insurance investigators -- will begin their probe.

Danke schoen.

I will not "rush to judgement", as many things could have happened. An engine seal might have failed, or perhaps a ballast pump.

A boat does not just sink. Somebody did something to cause it. How many boats do you know of just sink for no reason.

mechanical problems on a yatcht that has been harbored. either the mechanic wayne had servicing the boat screwed up or given the money troubles Wayne has had over the years. he might have decided to add insurance fraud to his act

That big fat boat was bloated and weighed down with hair dye and cosmetic procedures and simply 'broke' . . or is that the owner?

We've seen this happen repeatedly at the yacht basin locally. Usually when the engines are being worked on or pulled. Some idiot ALWAYS seems to "forget" to put the plugs back in. Usually when the work isn't paid for or the slip rental isn't paid.

Hrmm.. wonder what happened? Just saying.

I'm sorry; a fiberglass boat doesn't "just sink" while moored at a marina slip!

What mystery, there is a torpedo launcher right in front of the vessel. Case closed.

The marina must be a kilometre off shore, the water is so deep.
