Tom Cruise

My Job's As Hard As

Fighting in Afghanistan

Cruise's lawyer, Bert Fields, says the notion that Tom compares his acting to fighting a war is a distortion, pointing to a section in the deposition -- not part of the deposition that was publicly released -- in which Tom is asked, "Do you believe the situations [being in a movie and fighting a war in Afghanistan] are the same?"  Tom replies, "Oh come on."  Fields says that clearly means "of course not."

For the record, here's Tom's quote, responding to the opposing lawyer in the deposition:

Lawyer:  "Now, your counsel has publicly equated your absence from Suri for these extended periods of time as being analogous to someone fighting in Afghanistan.  Are you aware of that?"

Cruise:  "I didn't hear the Afghanistan, but that's what it feels like, and certainly on this last movie, it was brutal.  It was brutal."

gray-bar-update
Tom Cruise not only thinks he trains harder than Olympic athletes, he believes his job as a professional actor is as grueling as fighting the war in Afghanistan -- this according to legal docs obtained by TMZ.

As we reported, Cruise recently sat for a deposition in his $50 million libel suit against a magazine publisher that claimed he abandoned daughter Suri -- and his quotes are GOLD.

First, the Middle East -- Tom says his location shoots are just like serving a tour in Afghanistan, "That's what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal. It was brutal."
1108_afghanistan_war_footerAs for his physical training, Tom said, "There is difficult physical stamina and preparation. Sometimes I've spent months, a year, and sometimes two years preparing for a single film." But the kicker, he adds, "A sprinter for the Olympics, they only have to run two races a day. When I'm shooting, I could potentially have to run 30, 40 races a day, day after day."

1108_olympic_action_footerBut it's not all grenades and triathlons  ... Tom says he's only flown commercial ONCE in the last 4 years ... and that was because he had no choice.

And there's this ... Tom says the skills he's picked up along the way have provided shortcuts in his relationship with Suri.  For example, he says it's not always necessary for him to be physically around Suri, because he can tell her vivid stories on the phone that come to life.  Tom says, "I've gotten very good at [talking on the phone]. I've gotten very good at it. I tell wonderful stories and they like hearing it."

Just when you think that the arrogance of Tom Cruise can't get any weirder he comes up with this nonsense....let's test your heroism with a trip to the front lines...Mr.Movie star with his millions of dollars pay checks would not last five minutes...his credibility is zero considering he believes that he is Devine....what a crock ...Katie you are one smart cookie getting away just in the nick of time before Suri was indoctrinated into his sham religion....

Seriously, if he really said these things, he should be freaking ASHAMED of himself. It's pretty evident that this guy turned from talented, good looking and smart — to a complete and utter A-HOLE. You cannot say s#it like this and not expect a backlash. People hated him when he acted like a mental patient on Oprah and even more people are going to hate him now.

Oh really D bag? Have you ever had to pick up the body parts of your best friend after he was blown up at a checkpoint? That is how my boyfriend who is an Army SSG spent one wonderful day at his job serving our country. How dare you be so arrogant as to put yourself in the same category of any soldier.

The Afghanistan thing is complete nonsense... he was seriously talking out of his ass, and I expect his publicists to issue an apology about it in by Monday, at the latest.

The Olympic thing, though... I'm completely backing him up here. I mean - he is Tom Cruise. If you don't understand what I'm getting at here, go to YouTube and search 'tom cruise run'... HOURS of cinematic evidences that he has essentially been a trained athletes since the 90's. Think about it this way: if you put Cruise next to anyone in his "Top Gun" cast, they'll all look aged and dated and he'll look the same. Yeah, genetics has a lot to do with it, but obviously the SoB works like a goddamn beast to keep himself in shape.

As for the whole phone thing: that's fine, nothing beat, for a kid, having his parent right next to her.

But the Afghanistan comment? Ridiculous.

I think we are reading to much into what he said. I think his statements were about the physical work that went into some of his location shoots which I can understand. I don't think he is saying his job is harder then a soldiers. He was never quoted as saying his job is harder, at least I do not see that quote here. TMZ made up the headline for shock value but the quotes themselves say nothing of the kind.

Well, a sprinter at the Olympics does a world class job, our soldiers in Afghanistan do an outstanding world class job, not even comparable to anything else an idiot like Cruise could ever imagine....at least not to movies of this crazy Scientology mofo , which are not even world class or outstanding compared to other movies.

If he feels like a soldier under fire it is only because of his cult religion which he chouse for himself. Hey Tom, 99% of religions do not snoop at its members and make them feel like they are watched 100% of the time. Blame yourself you arrogant glib.
