Jameis Winston

Signs Cops Covered Up Sexual Assault Allegations

11/14/2013 12:10 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

There's evidence Tallahassee cops tried to sweep the sexual assault investigation targeting Florida State University QB Jameis Winston under the rug to protect the team and its star player ... and ONLY took aggressive steps after TMZ Sports started asking questions.

Sources in the State Attorney's Office tell us they never even knew about the investigation until Tuesday ... JUST ONE DAY AFTER TMZ Sports began making calls to cops about the alleged assault.

Our sources in the State Attorney's Office say ... it was highly unusual cops wouldn't have filled them in about the case until this week.  The sources say cops would have typically notified them when the investigation was completed, and Winston's lawyer reportedly says cops told him it was completed in February.

Now get this ... TMZ Sports started calling police about the case on Monday.  We were told someone would get back to us later that day, but there was radio silence for 2 days ... we made repeated calls Tuesday and Wednesday and no one got back to us until late Wednesday afternoon.

Sources in the State Attorney's Office tell us ... the timing -- getting notified about the case months after it supposedly was closed and just a day after TMZ started calling -- is suspicious.

The State Attorney has now re-activated the case and sent it back to cops for further investigation.

And there's a twist -- guess what would happen if Winston was even CHARGED with felony sexual assault -- under FSU's rules ... he would be AUTOMATICALLY BENCHED ... killing the team's national championship hopes and his Heisman Trophy chances.

Perhaps you fools at TMZ should get your stories straight before you post blasphemous lies about people. Winston has yet to be questioned by the police, or interviewed by prosecutors. The perpetrator was 5'9-5'10 and weighed 240 pounds.... Jameis Winston is 6'4 and weighs around 220... Do you people even check facts? Or simply try to ruin careers because you enjoy defaming people?

Well thats b.s. people saying that he was a nobody. He was the number 1 qb coming out of high school and was the elite eleven MVP. So even as a redshirt he was known as the future of FSU football. This sounds alot like the Mark Sanchez case his redshirt year. I played football in college and trust me redshirt year is the craziest. You practice but dont travel to away games. So people get crazy while the team is away. SMH

This whole case being dragged back up with his name attached to it reeks of a prosecutor fishing for a high profile case now that Winston is a big name. And by the way TMZ reported this, they are trying to make it a big story any way they can.

TMZ are idots...he was a 4th string QB when this happened. Also TPD is notorious for ringing up FSU players on bogus charges and the players missing significant time until the charges are dropped. This is the worst reporting ever. I swear TMZ just throws %^#& up against a wall and hpoes it sticks lol

The truth - last season the Tallahassee Police Department arrested FSU's star defensive player and he was immediately dismissed from the team.

The alleged sexual assault happened when Jameis Winston had never taken a snap at FSU. FSU's QB was E J Manuel, the number one QB in the NFL draft. Winston was a nobody freshman. He was not a "star" - there was nothing to protect.

The TPD has no history of covering for FSU athletes - do a little research before you claim wrong doing on the TPD.

Jameis did travel w/ the team. Also, a huge difference between a reshirt freshman and a front-runner in the Heisman race w/ 3 weeks before ballots are turned in.

The alleged incident happened December 2012. TMZ is alleging the police covered up a sexual assault to save FSU's national championship hopes even though those hopes that would not be hopes till Oct. 2013 (10-11 months later) and to protect a back-up freshman who was not expected to start until 2014 at earliest (so no, he did not have Heisman hopes). And the teenager (he's 19) TMZ is branding a criminal is 5-6 inches taller and 20 pounds lighter than the alleged assailant. When you say all that out loud, there is only one conclusion - clearly the TPD can see the future so decided to violate the alleged victim's rights. What else possibly makes sense?? Responsible journalism used to be a goal, not a joke.
