Gronkowski's Asian Fan

No Hot & Sour Feelings

After Fried Rice Joke

11/14/2013 2:01 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

New England Patriots
star Rob Gronkowski did NOT offend an Asian fan with his fried rice joke earlier this week ... so says the Asian fan himself, who tells TMZ Sports, he laughed along with the rest of the crowd.

The 41-year-old (who wished to be identified only by his first name Joe) tells us, when Gronk poked fun at him at Sunday's Q&A event in Foxborough, MA -- saying, "They told me he could only cook fried rice!" -- he wasn't bothered by it ... in fact, he thought it was funny.

Joe says he's been buddies with Gronk for more than a year and a fan for more than 15, so a little teasing here and there is all in good fun.

He says he knows Gronk meant no harm by the jokes, which also included calling Joe "Leslie Chow" ... aka Ken Jeong's character from "The Hangover."

Joe tells us, he feels partly responsible for the firestorm around the fried rice joke because he hammed up his dance moves for the camera, and generally acted silly when he probably shouldn't have.

Joe says he reconnected with Gronk Wednesday night at an autograph signing, and the tight end expressed regret over the whole incident -- but as far as Joe is concerned, it's all water under the bridge.

See that's how you handle a slight joke. Joe had no problem with it and it wasn't a issue... Untill TMZ tried to fan the racial flames. It didn't work. In this case you were dealing with mature people that know a joke is just a joke. Shows Joe is a mature adult that understands the world and humor and ribbing. That being said. Could you imaging the fall out if Joe was black and he made a black joke. their would be riots, marches, people trying to get people fired and put in jail, death threats, rehab, months of political apologies. it would be a whole circus that TMZ would pound on for months.
Thanks Joe for setting a good example

Everybody is so dam sensitive. The dude dont care. America has become the land of the whispering views. Because if you say anything that can be twisted into a sexist or racial comment you will be burnt on a steak. Its the modern day wich hunt. He said gay, she called him black, someone made a rice or pork reference. Get over it! If you are fighting for equal rights and feel like this hurts your cause then keep on fighting. Because you dont consider yourself an equal.

One of the many things I like about Asians, they don't complain and play the race card, even when justified.

Basically TMZ making a story out of nothing again. What else is new?

And apparently Gronk was racist in TMZ's mind for his jokes but putting "GRONKOWSKI'S ASIAN FAN NO HOT & SOUR FEELINGS After Fried Rice Joke" isn't? So when TMZ makes a racist joke it's ok, when Gronk makes one TMZ tries to turn it into a huge deal.
