Original 'Sound of Music' Actress

Live Special Was 'Painful to Watch'

12/6/2013 7:57 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

1206-kym-karath2
Gretl Von Trapp from the original "The Sound of Music" movie was left "mystified and disappointed" after last night's live remake on NBC ... and says Carrie Underwood TOTALLY BOMBED!!

Gretl a.k.a. Kym Karath met up with former co-star Charmian Carr (Liesl Von Trapp) to watch the special last night ... but their excitement deflated once "Sound" started.

1206-subasset-charmian-carr
During the special Kym tweeted, "Mystified & disappointed so far by SOM special. So far only happy with Stephen Moyer" ... then followed up by saying, "Must admit some scenes are actually painful to watch."

That's when Karath kicked things up a notch by roasting Underwood's performance adding, "Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her. She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong."

For what it's worth ... the special brought in HUGE ratings for NBC with 18.5 million viewers.

These people that believe they are the only ones that have ever done anything need to get a life. Carrie Underwood is a fantastic singer and human being. Stop the crying.

Given that it was Underwood's first acting gig and it was on live t.v. no less, I thought she did a pretty good job. And this was a production of the original stage musical, not a remake of the movie. Different things.

Who cares about this womans comment..what has she done since? I think they did a great job..Not easy to pull off a LIVE 3 hour performance...all the set and costume changes...

Ya know what? Your acting was horrible!! How many kids auditioned and YOU got the part? Carrie Underwood was perfection. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to sing live (and any other way) for that long on live TV? Um, no you don't. Now go away. Your 15 minutes were up 40 years ago!!

The two women, i.e. former actresses?

Had THEIR moment.

But they don't want Carrie - to have Carrie's.

Selfish.

Kym Karath you have done nothing since 1988. You are not qualified to judge Carrie Underwood!

What has she done since SOM. Carrie Underwood is a fantastic singer and human being. These people that think they are the only individuals that have ever accomplished anything need to sit in their rocking chairs and talk to themselves. We don't want to hear the crying.

The NBC live program was *not* a remake if you mean it was a remake of the 1965 film. It was essentially the stage play.

A live production of a musical really interested me.....loved the music. It was something different from the usual sitcoms or reality TV. Thumbs up!

What people are FORGETTING is that its NOT a remake. its a live production from the play. Carrie said she wasn't an actress and she didn't do a bad job considering!

This woman's comments are like get over yourself. You were in a movie...completely different than a live production for two and half hours.

I just watched your clip of this...I think some people need to get their facts straight. Oh wait, you guys don't go by the facts.

Let's compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges.

The Live performance of Sound of Music last night was based on the ORIGINAL performance. Which was in 1959...Mary Martin played Maria Von Trapp. It was a Broadway play. A LIVE play, not a movie.

Needless to say, if there is a gaffe, there aren't any "take 2's" or 3's and 4's. I would like to see the actors, that were in the movie in 1965, perform live. I am guessing the only one that would have done it justice was Julie Andrews...and even then, she may have made mistakes.

Was this my favorite version? No. But they all did an outstanding job, and it does rank up there with the movie.

Kudos to Carrie and all the other actors!
