Paul Walker

Family Believes Road Bumps Sealed His Fate

12/11/2013 8:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Paul Walker
died after the speeding Porsche in which he was riding hydroplaned on reflective plastic markers in the street ... at least that's what his family and accident reconstruction experts believe.

Sources close to Paul's family tell TMZ ... the family has been in touch with stunt experts who have gone to the crash site and come back with what they believe is a solid theory -- a speeding car that hits the plastic markers -- called Botts' Dots -- will hydroplane, causing the driver to lose control.

We've learned the experts have told the family ... a car going speeds approaching 90 MPH will lose traction after hitting a series of Botts' Dots.  It's akin to driving on ice -- and  control is further compromised by the fact that the Porsche was outfitted with special racing tires that have very little tread.

And there's this ... Porsche sent out a memo to dealers back in 2004, warning about control problems with the Carrera GT, saying, "This vehicle cannot drive over a Foster Beer can that is lying on its side.  It will crush the can and damage the carbon fiber under panels," adding, "You need to be aware of what type of road surface you are on (dips, pot holes, seam heights, etc.)."

Law enforcement sources say they have not concluded the exact cause of the accident, but it appears they're looking at the Botts' Dots ... as a viable theory for triggering the fatal crash.

I read that the real cause was second hand smoke from a Repubican White guy driving A pickup with a load of dead baby seals. Dose any one know where G. W. Bush was that Day ?

Blame anything but the driver.....

Attention TMZ: "hydro" means water. So unless the pavement was wet, he did NOT hydroplane. You really do have morons for writers.

Some great comments. Very sad two people had to lose their lives. Bad decision. Driving a car designed for race courses and hitting 90 on a public street. Dumb. Lucky innocents weren't killed. Then there's TMZ. Totally worthless. "Road bumps" weren't what killed them. And they aren't "bumps," they're dots made to keep people within their lane so they don't crash. And running story after story about lower-level celebs rather than Mandela, who really made a positive difference in the world. Something I can't say about TMZ. Sympathies to the families. But these two had no respect for speed, and, speed kills.

excessive speed can kill and in this case it did. If they wanted to put their lives in jepardy they should have been on a race track . Driving like this on a public street , to me, shows that they didn't have much concern for other people's lives. To bad it had to happen but the blame is on them.

I hope it makes the family feel better to believe that a reflective speed bump caused these two people to lose their lives.

"Defying" the Speed Bump kills... or hadn't you noticed that it could work this way..??

Sadly, I think the speed the driver was going is what " sealed his fate" hitting speed bumps and a normal rate of speed wouldn't make a car hydroplane out of control and into a fiery death trap. Get real family! Sorry for your loss, but if you want to sue anyone, sue Roger's estate. He was the only one at fault here. :/

The family just wants to know how...they need for it to make sense. I don't think anyone is denying speeding was the root cause.

And they were speeding because.....??????

If they had not been going almost 90 mph, no speed bump would have been a problem.

Doing a stupid thing is what did him in!

What a load of rubbish. Had they been driving like a normal sane person on the public streets and not jeopardizing his life and the life's of others he would still be with you. Instead their immature action caused the accident resulting in their death

Excessive speed can kill and in this case it did. If they wanted to put their lives in jepardy they should have been on a race track. Apparently they weren't very concerned about other people's lives driving like this on a public street. It's too bad but it was their own fault period.
