Paul Walker

Family Believes Road Bumps Sealed His Fate

12/11/2013 8:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Paul Walker
died after the speeding Porsche in which he was riding hydroplaned on reflective plastic markers in the street ... at least that's what his family and accident reconstruction experts believe.

Sources close to Paul's family tell TMZ ... the family has been in touch with stunt experts who have gone to the crash site and come back with what they believe is a solid theory -- a speeding car that hits the plastic markers -- called Botts' Dots -- will hydroplane, causing the driver to lose control.

We've learned the experts have told the family ... a car going speeds approaching 90 MPH will lose traction after hitting a series of Botts' Dots.  It's akin to driving on ice -- and  control is further compromised by the fact that the Porsche was outfitted with special racing tires that have very little tread.

And there's this ... Porsche sent out a memo to dealers back in 2004, warning about control problems with the Carrera GT, saying, "This vehicle cannot drive over a Foster Beer can that is lying on its side.  It will crush the can and damage the carbon fiber under panels," adding, "You need to be aware of what type of road surface you are on (dips, pot holes, seam heights, etc.)."

Law enforcement sources say they have not concluded the exact cause of the accident, but it appears they're looking at the Botts' Dots ... as a viable theory for triggering the fatal crash.

So exactly where does the water come in? "Hydro" means water. You cannot technically hydroplane without water being involved.

It's a great loss, but does this mean that the family will now sue the county? Or is the lesson here, do not speed.

His family seems to be looking for someone to blame (sue). Sorry, but the person who is at fault for the crash is dead. The driver. That car had no business being on the road, least of all at that speed. The dots aren't at fault.

All the debate being raged on what caused Walker's and Dragos death is immaterial now. The Porsche they were in was a mobile death trap and they were responsible for being in it speeding.

i think doing 90mph into the corner was the problem

Damn those pesky Bott's Dots

I guess going 90 miles an hour had nothing to do with it.

My first thought after seeing the crash was "mecanical error". Somrething on that car failed! There is no way driver error was at fault here. Was he showing off? Yea some show off. Was he going fast? Most likely. Was he taking that car to it's driving limts? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Lets not kid ourselves. He was an experienced driver. Does anyone really believe seconds before the crash Roger looked over at Paul and said "Hey! lets test the limits of this car on a corner we don't no not much about. iF

Ive always liked P.Walker as an actor & for all his humanitarian efforts but, his family is in "denial" of what really sealed his order to heal they have to face the truth so they can set an example & maybe just maybe this tragedy doesnt happen to someone else..unfortunately the real world is full tragedies its what we do after that makes a difference. R.I.P Paul <3

Geezh people all the article is saying is that those bumps could have destabilized the car because of the high rate of speed. No one is saying speed was not a factor. dont get ur panties in a bunch. The bump theory makes sense. High rate of speed in a turn and you start hitting those bumps and away you go.
