Paul Walker

Family Believes Road Bumps Sealed His Fate

12/11/2013 8:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Paul Walker
died after the speeding Porsche in which he was riding hydroplaned on reflective plastic markers in the street ... at least that's what his family and accident reconstruction experts believe.

Sources close to Paul's family tell TMZ ... the family has been in touch with stunt experts who have gone to the crash site and come back with what they believe is a solid theory -- a speeding car that hits the plastic markers -- called Botts' Dots -- will hydroplane, causing the driver to lose control.

We've learned the experts have told the family ... a car going speeds approaching 90 MPH will lose traction after hitting a series of Botts' Dots.  It's akin to driving on ice -- and  control is further compromised by the fact that the Porsche was outfitted with special racing tires that have very little tread.

And there's this ... Porsche sent out a memo to dealers back in 2004, warning about control problems with the Carrera GT, saying, "This vehicle cannot drive over a Foster Beer can that is lying on its side.  It will crush the can and damage the carbon fiber under panels," adding, "You need to be aware of what type of road surface you are on (dips, pot holes, seam heights, etc.)."

Law enforcement sources say they have not concluded the exact cause of the accident, but it appears they're looking at the Botts' Dots ... as a viable theory for triggering the fatal crash.

This sounds like some lawyers sniffing around for some blame and whispering in the family's ear. I hope they ignore the greedy lying lawyers, and grieve their loved one in peace and dignity. Probably the same group keeping MJ's mother still in the courtroom.

OMG! Blame it on the safety bumps? How about the speeding? What if there were pedestrians walking along? I understand people sympathizing with the death of these men but they killed themselves by breaking the law. Enough already! This was suicide period!

Anyone who drives a vehicle with more or less a race car suspension and wide rubber on it (12" or more) in southern California is aware of how Botts Dots adversely affect the handling of a car. They are treacherous, especially when wet conditions are present. As professional drivers these guys should have used better discretion if this actually turns out is the cause; as a rule most professional drivers drive very conservatively on the street, knowing the unlimited surprise challenges that can arise at high speeds.

of course it isn't any fault of the driver right? speed bumps are for those that feel the need NOT to follow speed limits etc.etc.

Doing 90 mph in a 45 is what caused this crash. I bet if he was doing 45 and ran over them he would not have hydroplaned!

Bott dots whatever.. Still the Key word here is "Speed" 90mph estimated by there experts. Speed is what killed them.

I agree with Chuck sure these dots may have been a factor but he shouldn't have gotten in a car with a guy who was speeding and if he did he should have told the guy to slow down its time people stop making excuses and time to take some personal responsibility when it comes to their actions its tragic that two people had to die but when you choose the action that you choose the consequences R.I.P Paul Walker

Funny how everything and everyone is to blame with the exception of the people in thew car that were speeding. Let's get real they have no one to blame except themselves and speed.

There is no ah-ha moment... I'm sorry for their loss but seriously stop blaming everything and everyone else... Sad but if he knew the car was like this IRS his own negligence for driving it. That's what material vanity gets you.

He died of ignorance, disregard for others. This guy is far from a folk hero, if he lived he would be in jail. enough of this, the speed bump was there for a reason.
