Chuck D

Listen Up White America ...

We Ain't 'Ni**as'

12/18/2013 12:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

Public Enemy frontman Chuck D has a message for anyone buying into Suge Knight's take on the n-word -- tossing around that epithet is vile and disrespectful to the Civil Rights movement ... no matter how much it's overused in popular music today.

As we reported, Suge proposed a controversial idea this week -- eliminating the term "African-American" ... because he feels it's inaccurate ... and instead going with "ni**a."

121613_suge_knight_launch_v2
Chuck D agrees "African-American" isn't a perfect term since a white person could technically be African-American too -- but insists the n-word ... with an 'a' or 'er' ... is too rooted in bloody history and oppression to be used loosely.

Put more poetically by Chuck -- "Being called Black in America is the struggle to keep us moving and breathing over bloody water. Being a Nig**r or [Ni**a] without the context of history is like drowning in bloody water, dragging down those yet knowing to swim."

Chuck D, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, added -- he thinks rappers show a lack creativity when they use the n-word "more than 3 times a song. It's lazy. Especially when out of context."

In other words ... don't believe the hype.

Wow TMZ I get that you're a gossip site but you reach new lows with that public vote on the word. Are you kidding?? We're looking at over 200 years of that word striking fear and shame in the hearts of people of colour. Just because a bunch of rappers decide to throw it around in the 2000s doesn't make it okay.

How about we just call all of us born here or made a citizen here Americans and get rid of the race descriptions.

Grow up Chuck. What are you, like 50 years old now? The word "******" hurts? Man up and pull that stick out of your ass. You're 3 decades too old for the "Angry Young Brother" routine.

Um...Who exactly is perpetuating Racism here? We 'Whites' were trained in the 70's...why do Blacks still hate us so much? And so sorry but neither I nor my family has EVER owned a slave. Just sayin'

(And you can say this is a Racist post but is it really? I'm not a racist but these guys are - I would talk to these men like they were anyone else on the planet regardless of color but would they do the same with me?)

Hey TNZ, I thought you were a gossip site? Suge Knight as the voice of any group of people is insulting and absurd. I might as well find the grand wizard and inquire about the state of race relations in the Bayou. The whole story is in such poor taste.

So as long as the N word is not used more than 3 times in a song, it is okay to use it. That's pretty hypocritical. It shouldn't be used at all.

So let me see if I'm understanding this since your statement about the word, Chuck D, was pretty much unintelligible ... using the "n" word once or twice in a song is ok but more than three times shows a lack of creativity???? In other words, it's only offensive if you use it more than twice; is that it????? WTF?????? BTW, I do agree with you on the African American PC phrasing ... it's not accurate and it's just irritating. You're here in America; you're an American as am I. Why do we need to categorize people like that, or try to????? Is that not racist in and of itself?????

all about the money

Again if its vile and hateful then why is it acceptable use by anyone. Instead of saying ok fine if anyone can use it everyone can use it approach of Suge to even having to indicate a need to identify a "struggle" by using Black American. Why can't we all just be American's? Why put anything before America? I find it ironic after so many years of fighting for equality, that the majority of people using the N word are black people not "racist white people" Black, white, gray, purple pooka dots, none of it matters when everyone is equal. The people that want to identify themselves as being different from or even better than a plan ole American are the ones who continue to fuel race wars and inequality. If you are an American citizen...you are an American. If you are an African American then you are putting Africa before America. Mexican American you are putting Mexico before America, Asian American you are putting Asia before America. Stop putting anything before America! If you have to...well then maybe you should relocate to your prefered country since you are not proud enough to be just an American.
