Thousands of "Duck Dynasty" fans are on a mission to end Phil Robertson's network suspension over his anti-gay comments -- 'cause they say A&E is denying him his human rights.

Over 35 THOUSAND people have signed a petition -- which fired up yesterday on Change.org -- demanding A&E end the suspension.

Even worse for the network ... it's being ROASTED on social media by DD fans -- hundreds of people are accusing A&E of not allowing Phil Robertson his basic right to freedom of speech.

One fan put the network on blast saying, "As a gay male, is what he said wrong and not educated about how gay people really are? Yes it was. Does he have the right to speak on what he thinks YES HE DOES!"

The fan adds, "Was I offended NO I WASN'T he is a smart man and could learn the truth about things he has no idea about. He's old school you can't hate on him for his beliefs DO NOT GET RID OF PHIL ON THIS SHOW! KEEP HIM!! I will no longer watch if he's gone!!!"

So, we gotta ask ...

I think this redneck show ought to be moved to either a hunting channel or a religious station and let the cretins say whatever they want.

Of course he has freedom of speech. What he doesn't have is freedom from the consequences of said speech. Note the distinction. A&E decided they didn't want that Point of view associated with their network, which is their right. Good on them.

Yes, as an American with Freedom of Speech, he did have the right to make his statements. However, A&E also had every right to suspend him. His statements were a breach of contract, plain and simple. They were spiteful and ignorant statements, but mostly they were bigoted and discriminatory, which reflects on A&E as a company. A company, mind you, who reported themselves as "strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community."

I'm sure his contract came with a standard clause that says if he does or says anything that would reflect badly on the company, its values, or its viewers, they have every right to terminate their relationship with him, which they did. Once he signed that contract, he became legally bound by it, and he should have known that such highly publicized and controversial remarks were going to have some legal ramifications from his employer.

Last time I checked, freedom of speech just allows you to say anything. In which Phil did. However freedom of speech does NOT mean that he can't be fired or suspended for saying whatever he wants. If you think that, go to work and say racial slurs. And guess what, you'll be fired. Stop being ignorant please.

I'm a fierce ally! His comments are ignorant. But let the viewers decide on the show. If you don't like him or his stance on issues, don't watch the show. Simple as that. Personally, I don't find rednecks entertaining in any way. I will never watch that show. GO GAYS!!

So who's standing up for A&E's right to fire someone who represents them in a way that they are not comfortable with?

As a gay man, i am not offended at all. This is the first time a celebrity has spoken their opinion and i am NOT offended. HE spoke his opinion, including adultery and other sins. Who cares if he doesn't like MANgina, i don't like VAgina had they asked me. To each their own. At least he didn't pull an Alec Baldwin on us!!

A persons personal religious beliefs are his to say as he wants. That is why we have Freedom of Speech in this country. A&E is being INTOLERANT of that. They are doing the same thing that they're accusing Phil Robertson of doing. It wasn't even on the show that he gave his personal views, just a interview in a magazine.
A&E wouldn't dare to that to a Muslim if it were the cir***stances were the same.
