Torrey Smith

NFL Player Fires Off Homophobic Slur

1/3/2014 10:32 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

10:50 AM PT -- Torrey is standing his ground ... tweeting, "I wasn't being offensive nor am I homophobic not apologizing or taking it down."
With the Chris Kluwe gay controversy raging, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith has thrust himself into the mix by hurling a homophobic slur in public.

Smith just posted a photo on Instagram featuring a man wearing pink flowery socks ... along with the caption, "Look at this queen."

0103-torrey-smithInteresting timing, considering Kluwe says he was blackballed from the NFL for crusading against gay hatred -- like this -- and pushing for equality.

Of course, it ain't the first time an NFL star has used a homophobic slur in public -- just last year, 49ers defensive star Chris Culliver came under serious fire after saying he wouldn't play with a gay teammate because he's not into "that sweet stuff."

We've reached out to Torrey's rep -- so far, no word back.

I'm Gay just to be sure! Just like Phil Robertson, he has a God given, Constitutionally protected right to his opinion, of which I will back up to the proverbial hilt.

Interesting that you have "contacted Torrey's rep with no response" I am his publicist and nobody from your organization has reached out to me at all.

Newsweek called Barry Soetoro the first homosexual president. He's a coke head too. And a pot head.

1st of all that is Torrey's brother so It would be safe to assume this is friendly family banter. 2nd If you have even the slightest idea of Torrey's character you would probably be ashamed you posted such a Bogus story. 3rd Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The purpose behind the gay activist movement…is equality, therefore freedom of speech should be extended to everyone, including the gay and the celebrity stature individuals. Just because there is a movement, which entails freedom for all, does not mean individuals should forever cartel themselves to make everything censor friendly. If you want equality understand that freedom comes with criticism/a price as well..and that goes for every race, color and creed. Nevertheless, Torrey Smith is far from close minded so shut the front door! Thank you.

Please take this CRAP down. This is absolutely horrible. Someone coming to this site, who may know nothing about Torrey will see his name next to the word homophobic. Torrey is far from that. He is one of the few respectful, upstanding positive men in the NBA.
How about writing a story about him marrying his wife BEFORE getting her pregnant. Now that's a story in the NFL or in the word today in general.

I know this isn't coming from the same TMZ that conducted a poll on whether black Americans should be called the n-word... http://www.theroot.com/articles/culture/2013/12/tmz_poll_african_american_or_ni_a.html

Grow a set TMZ...so anyone that refers to Romo as Homo is a hater? Last I looked, calling the opposition stupid childish names is fair game. I guess it would be wrong for a Ravens fan to refer to Tom Brady as a ***** and Ben Roethlisberger as a rapist..

Homeboys named "Torrie" should be more worried about his own sexuality. Or does his momma spell it as "Tori"?

"Homophobe" is not a word. It is a propaganda attack phrase nvented by radical gay activists to put a label on those who support traditional marriage. But TMZ are supposed to be the journalists here, hmmm?
