Iraqi Death Scene

Pics of Marines Burning Bodies

Trigger U.S. Military Investigation [PHOTOS]

EXCLUSIVE

The United States military is conducting a formal investigation into American soldiers burning the dead bodies of what appear to be Iraqi insurgents.

TMZ obtained 41 pictures that we're told were shot in Fallujah in 2004.  Two pictures show a Marine appearing to pour gasoline or some other flammable on the remains of what officials believe are 2 insurgents.  Two other photos show the bodies on fire.  You then see charred remains.

Another photo shows a Marine crouched down next to a dead body and mugging for the camera.

Still another pic shows a Marine rifling through the pocket of the pants on a corpse.

We have not included all of the photos.  Many are just too gruesome.  There are well over a dozen bodies in the pics and some are covered with flies and one is being eaten by a dog.

We turned them all over to the Pentagon last week, and a Pentagon official tells us the pics have triggered a Marine Corps investigation.

We're told U.S. Central Command -- the organization in charge of military operations in the Middle East -- also reviewed the photos to determine if they had been previously brought to their attention and determined they had not.

Col. Steve Warren, Director of Press Operations for the Dept. of Defense, tells TMZ ... the pictures appear to show U.S. soldiers in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice ... which makes it a crime to mishandle remains.

There is no statute of limitations on the crime -- even if the soldiers are now private citizens ... they can still be prosecuted, which could land them behind bars.

Col. Warren tells TMZ,  "The actions that are depicted in these photos are not in any way representative of the honorable, professional service of the 2 1/2  million service members who went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last decade."

bodies on battle fields have been burned for centuries if they don't disease developes quickly these soldiers did the right thing, it's a greater disgrace to bury their dead without the proper ceramonies, hell osama slid off the ass of one of our carriers and you all cheered, so shut the f-ck up and stop judging our men and women out in that hell hole of a war, that would make you wet yourself...

What spin by the sociopathic elites to have to 'investigate' those 'awful marines' for burning rotting corpses. If the bodies weren't burned the locals would have a much higher chance of getting diseased, and the lunatic elites wouldn't have cared. The sociopathic US elites look for any opportunity to attack their own people. This is symptomatic of self hatred, a poison that is rotting out the inside of our civilization.

you shouldn't have done this without also showing the terrorists celebrating when they blow up children, ect. may i;m taking it out of context like ' american watches garbage rot. Also better to burn than allow more diseases to spread.

Under normal cir***stances I wouldn't take the time to opine on the matter, but here goes...

It was in Falluja that the US contractors were killed and their mutilated corpses hung from a bridge. Let's just say that this mob action may have provided some "inspiration" to the Marines.

Is there an expectation on the part of anyone that the Marines should have shown a level of respect for the Iraqi dead that Iraqis were unable to show to the remains of the Americans whom they had killed? That would be a delusional expectation.

OK. The Iraq war was a horrible mistake. That unfortunate country (actually, it not really a country, but an abomination created by the British and French in the aftermath of WW1) should have been left in hands of Saddam & Co., the sort of leadership which Iraq both needs and deserves. The lives and treasure expended by the US and its allies have been flushed down the toilet of history. Thank you George W & poodle Tony.

Aren't we the only country on the planet to USE nuclear weapons, not just once, but twice?

Didn't we (also) firebomb Japan and most of Europe to win the war (WWII)?

We're such hypocrites.

War is the nastiest, dirtiest thing a human can do or be asked to do.

We pretend there is some honorable, ethical way to wage war, but there isn't.

So sorry to see this from "my Marines".
Unless there was a valid medical reason (contagious disease, etc.) there would be NO mishandling of remains when I was serving.
However, going into a deceased pockets may be a typical effort to obtain intelligence information.

I cannot believe you would show pictures that are not only controversial, but show our troops in a bad light...
un-American, un-patriotic. Obama is treating them
(& veterans) like s*** and you thought you would just
add to the garbage? The Bible says an "eye for an eye" - who are you to judge the situation (which may
well not be 'real' - Photo shop....?
