Scorsese Actress

Husband Sues Over Killing

She Was Run Over and Left for Dead

1/25/2014 12:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

An actress from Martin Scorsese's first film was hit by THREE CARS before she died in 2012 -- one of which dragged her 600 feet ... and her husband is now suing everyone involved in the accident.

Zina Bethune's husband Sean is suing Independent Taxi, one of its cabbies, as well as two other drivers ... claiming it's their fault Zina was killed on Forest Lawn Drive on February 12, 2012.

Zina -- who starred in Scorsese's 1967 debut film "Who's That Knocking at My Door" -- had just exited her car to help an injured animal on the side of the road ... and Sean recounts the tragedy that unfolded.

According to Sean, a taxi driver immediately collided with Zina, causing his left side view mirror to break. Sean says the driver left Zina in the middle lane of traffic while he retrieved his mirror, failing to assist Zina in any capacity as she lay in the roadway.

Soon after, Sean claims Zina was hit by a second car ... which dragged her body 600 feet.

At that point, Sean says a THIRD car then ran over Zina ... and when that driver pulled over, she noticed the taxi driver attempting to leave the scene ... so she blocked him. Zina didn't survive the accidents.

It's heartbreaking -- Sean's now suing for wrongful death, medical expenses, loss of love and affection, funeral expenses ... demanding unspecified damages. Calls to Independent Taxi weren't returned.

Sioux City Boy

Mrs. Feeley was known professionally as Zina Bethune, She was a renowned former ballet dancer, actress and teacher of disabled children. When reading the story below realize the Northerly lane is the West Bound lane. The Taxi that hit her was traveling in the Opposite Direction . The road is designed for slow funereal processions and has two lanes for traffic

This from the original LA Times story:
"... Authorities are seeking information about a hit-and-run accident that killed a 66-year-old woman as she stopped to care for an animal lying in the road near Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills.

Zina Feeley, 66, had parked her 2006 Lincoln Town Car along the north shoulder of the 6000 block of Forest Lawn Drive about midnight Saturday, City News Service reported citing authorities.

While she was walking toward the animal, she was struck by a car traveling eastbound, LAPD Officer Cleon Joseph told City News Service in a statement. Feeley was thrown into the westbound lane, where she was hit a second time by a car traveling eastbound. She was dragged for more than 600 feet, Joseph said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics declared her dead at the scene, agency spokesman Matt Spence said. ..."

AGAIN, the road is not a road designed for high speed. It appears somewhat rural (for Los Angeles) and has bicycle lanes on both sides and some areas of restricted parking. Some areas have sidewalks. If one reads the story she was killed after having left her vehicle and while walking towards the injured animal. Had the drivers been attentive and driving at or below the posted speed limit the drivers would have, in most scenarios , been able to avoid the pedestrian.

the taxi co is screwed but as for the last two an argument could be made that a body laying in the street lower than the projection of a vehicles headlamp is instantly a danger in and of itself as safety pre-cautions are first for prevention of damages to those able bodied in normal use of the road.

copy paste and hand this to your lawyer

Yeah.. Getting out of a vehicle and running into a busy roadway filled with traffic has it's consequences..

I would sue her Estate for her actions that resulted in damage to my vehicle and the long term emotional effects of her recklessness..

" § 1152. Crossing at other than crosswalks. (a) Every pedestrian
crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or
within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right of
way to all vehicles upon the roadway."$$VAT1152$$@TXVAT01152+&LIST=LAW+&BROWSER=BROWSER+&TOKEN=40374763+&TARGET=VIEW

What is wrong with these sickos posting that it was her fault. She was trying to assist an injured animal for heaven's sake like any decent human being would do.
These heartless drivers wouldn't even stop for HER!!
The taxi driver stopped but only to retrive his frickin broken mirror. He deserves to be sued and more.

Zina Bethune pulling over for an animal... I'm agnostic, but if there IS a heaven, this woman is there. I don't care how careless she was for getting out on a busy street, doesn't matter to me. Her intent, her heart is what matters.

So many people don't give a rip for animals. I do. She did. I love her. That's that.

Taxi cab drivers are usually s***. More concerned about a da*m side door mirror? Typical. Never, ever, trust these guys. They'll rush off before you get your belongings out, then deny it later when you catch up, then after intense inquiry, sheepishly open the trunk and give your stuff back. I hate them and hope this one rots in financial he77 for a long time.

This is so sad!! I remember her from the 50s-60...s and always thought she had a most unusual name. Terrible that her kind heart lead to her death. My condolences to her husband and family, may she rest in peace.
