New York cops have just made 4 ARRESTS in connection with Philip Seymour Hoffman's death … Law enforcement sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ.

Our sources tell us … police have obtained a search warrant and are currently on scene at a NY apt. We're told police are targeting two individuals who they believe sold PSH heroin.  Sources say cops raided 3 units in the same building.

Sources also tell us … someone involved in the heroin market in NYC contacted police and gave them the names and addresses of two alleged drug dealers who pushed the drug.

We're told the heroin user told cops he buys from the same dealer Hoffman frequented and sometimes saw Hoffman in the dealer's apartment.  The informant says Hoffman would buy "bundles" of heroin at a time ... twice a week.

Sources say the informant told cops ... the alleged dealer -- a musician for a famous rapper -- would sometimes run out of his supply and use a secondary dealer, who sold "cheap s**t heroin" that was dangerous.  And the informant says ... Hoffman would get the secondary supply.

Four suspects are now in custody.  Law enforcement tells us all 4 were arrested for drugs found in the apartment units.

10:15 PM PT -- Sources tell us 3 of the suspects are men ... 1 woman -- and officers found nearly 350 glassine baggies filled with heroin.  We're told one of the men -- Robert Vineberg has played sax for Mick Jagger, Amy Winehouse, Wyclef, Tom Jones and David Bowie. He's been charged with felony drug possession.

So when are they going to start arresting and prosecuting strung out drug abusers like LieHo and Chuckles?

I will believe it when I see it.

I'm sure, somehow, this is all G.Bush's fault.

Why is it everytime a celeb dies of a drug overdose, someone else is blamed? It is the fault of the celeb, they bought the drugs and took them, no one held a gun to their heads! If a regular person like you and me dies of a drug o.d. the police do nothing and just write it off as an overdose. Such bull. The is Philip Seymour Hoffman's fault. I don't feel sorry for him, nor do I feel sorry for Michael Jackson either. Both men were drug attics. Stop blaming others!

Would the police have been that quick if the person who died had been Joe Nobody?

I'd like to know what they'll do a four engine run to find the dealer for a famous celebrity--not to mention run fifteen stories an hour about it--while ignoring the multitude of idiot over dose deaths by common people off the street. Don't get me wrong--I have no sympathy for any herion junkie; I just wonder what makes this one supposedly more tragic because it happened to a rich, pampered Hollywood type. (you never hear about the regular people who do this kind of moronic thing every day, and I just don't buy the premise that this guy's death was any more tragic than any of their's just because he was famous)

If the dead guy were just a low-life junkie instead of a celebrity would the NYC cops have made any arrests or made such an investigation? Just like the L.A. cops in the John Belushi case or the cops when Bobby Kennedy's son O-D'd my guess is probably not.

Ditto- It's the Drug Dealers Fault for A Celeberty Over Dosing and being a Drug Attict Right?
Just like it is For all the others..
Trying to Make this DRUG ATTIC Look better than he was..
What about all other Thousands of Drug Attics that Over Dose every yr? Blame their Dealers?

Lets Blame all the Car Salesmen for Selling Cars to those that Kill other People Too and How about GUNS?
The Media is Trying to Protect their Own Here..

How about Prostitution? Who's Fault is it really? The Girls or the Buyers of their Services?
Lets try to Tell it Like it Was and is, shall we?

Its good news whenever a drug dealer is taken off the streets however would there be this level of a manhunt if it was just your everyday average junkie who overdosed? I think not.

Hoffman's death is a tremendous loss of talent to screen and stage. However, people die from drug over doses every day, all over this country and little or no effort is done to find the dealers. One has to wonder if the same effort would have been made if the victim had been an unknown.

if there were more informants that would do this , we'd definately have fewer dealers , the availability of the drug ( of coarse ) allowed this to happen , and Hoffman himself has to take part of the blame - i see it like this , if you dangle a piece of meat in front of a dog , the dog will eventually get the meat

Interesting....four arrested within 48 hours over the death of one of the "elite', but NOONE arrested yet over the death of 4 patriots over 18 months after Benghazi.....

So if you are a rich celebrity and you die of drugs they go after the drug dealers. What about the millions of people that die everyday of drugs why not go after those drug dealers also. This is one ****ed up Country. If you are not rich you are nothing period!!!!!!
