Jay Leno

I'm Done With Television

... For Good

2/10/2014 8:55 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Don't expect Jay Leno to hijack "The Tonight Show" back from Jimmy Fallon ... because the ex late-night host swears he's done with TV ... FOREVER.

Jay was in West Palm Beach Florida -- but not to start his retirement.   Leno was there to perform stand-up comedy just two days after his exit from "The Tonight Show."

Jay's answer may come as a surprise ... especially since he left the show in 2010 ... then famously wrangled it back from Conan O'Brien.

So, we gotta ask ...

He'll break this promise sooner or later. Jay is the Brett Favre of late night TV show hosts.

Saw him a few months ago at a charity event; he totally mailed it in. The entire shtick was all comprised of those canned video clips of silly people doing dumb things and celebs digitally manipulated. Most in the audience were let down by the lack of any real "comedy".

In 8 months when the Fallon experiment fails miserably and the show is losing ratings and revenue, Comcast/NBC will back the armored car into Jay's garage, offering tons of cash and a plate of crow begging him back.

i HOPE HE COMES BACK ... Leno was the greatest guy and number one all the time. NBC is the loser. I hope he's picked up to do a TV show again and I'll make sure as many of my friends will, to watch. BY THE WAY, JIMMY FALLON IS AN *******, HE MOVED THE SHOW TO NEW YORK AND LEFT ALMOST 4,000 PEOPLE OUT OF WORK IN BURBANK AND MANY WILL LOOSE THEIR HOMES IN FORECLOSURE.. ALL CAUSE OF A LOSER LIKE FALLON WHO CAN'T SHINE LENO'S SHOES. IT PROVES IT WHEN YOU PUT PEOPLE OUT OF WORK AND GET GREEDY !!! I hope Fallon dies on air and NBC eats it financially for the advoertisers aren't going to pay big dollars for a losing late night show .. and we won't be watching Fallon so figure it out. Put our guys out of work Mr Jimmy Fallon and you're toast on the west coast !!

I hope he comes back but I don't think he will. NBC threw him away because he's old. He's one of the few shows on NBC that's number one and they just bumped him for Fallon. Fallon will never draw Leno's audience and as we've already learned from Conan, the youth of america aren't that loyal and he won't get the ratings.

Get your story straight. TMZ. Leno did not famously wrangle the show away from Conan. NBC begged him to go back, and he accepted. They were wrong to take it away from him in the first place, it was a horrible move on nbc's part.

Jay knows the same people that run or influence NBC will influence any other network as well.

I think this is in large part, politically motivated. Someone didn't want Jay making jokes about politicians and what they are doing. NBC takes their marching orders from others and it drifts down to the TV shows.

Jay was one of the few with a large audience that would "dare" make a joke about various political figures. Now Jay knows he won't get on TV again regardless of whether he pulls in ratings or not.

Jay has plenty of money, opportunities and has interests in other things like stand up comedy, cars and a wife. He'll do what he wants as long as he's alive.
