Philip Seymour Hoffman's Will

Keep My Son Away from Hollywood

Philip Seymour Hoffman
's dying wish was to keep his children far, far away from Hollywood -- this according to the actor's will.

TMZ obtained a copy of PSH's will -- drawn up in 2004 -- and according to the document, Hoffman requested that his son Cooper (back then his only child) be raised in Manhattan ... in order to be surrounded by the culture, arts, and architecture of the city.

If NYC turned out to be impossible, Hoffman asked for his son to be raised in Chicago or San Francisco. And if that didn't work out either, Hoffman wanted his son to visit these cities at least TWICE per year ... for cultural purposes.

The glaring omission on his list is obviously Los Angeles -- interesting because Hoffman was a big time Hollywood actor who spent lots of time in L.A.

Clearly, he didn't think it was a suitable city to raise a kid in.

As for the entirety of his estate, Hoffman left the whole shebang to his longtime partner and the mother of his 3 children, Mimi O'Donnell.

I do not blame him at all. It's sick how clubs will give these underage kids booze. They also get free drugs etc. It's just wrong on all kinds of levels, but this is Hollywood. Messed up as hell.

Maybe the early pressures of living in Hollywood (and essentially building a career there) carved the path for his drug addiction. Maybe he doesn't want his children to go down the same path he did (or was at that time of this will creation). Maybe some parents want their children to do better and be better than they were. Maybe Mr. Hoffman saw that drugs were easier to come by and more accessible in the Hollywood/LA area. Just some thoughts.

Nice work, pilfering the will, TMZ. You came up a little short on the cadaver shot though. Classy......

Did he actually SAY keep my kids away from Hollywood, or did he simply not mention LA? Your pseudo-quote headlines are often confusing.

LA is a great teacher. If you can survive there without going completely nuts, you can basically survive anywhere in the world.

I love how people are like poor guy, rest in peace, so sad when he over dosed on heroin. But u go over to Justin's news article on here about him smoking weed which was his very first incident people went crazy and started wishing death upon him, and degrading him in every way more so then usual. It doesn't take a genius to figure the people claim to despise Justin are the ones who should seek help and be deported to an island away from us sane people who actually want to see society get better.

Interesting that the rest of the nation was also deemed unsuitable. The kids would probably do better raised in Rochester like he was, but flyover country is out of the question when you're an aesthetic cultural elitist I suppose? Then again, best of all would have been for them to raised by their father - and the mother.....married maybe, although that seemed a bridge too far; how tritely conventional and "fly-over-y". Oh well.
