Ralph Macchio

The Crane Kick Is BS

Would Never Work In a Real Fight

Mr. Miyagi's gotta be rollin' in his grave ... because his finest pupil just TALKED SMACK about the legendary crane kick ... telling TMZ Sports the move would never work in a real fight.

Daniel LaRusso himself -- Ralph Macchio -- was out in NYC yesterday ... almost 30 YEARS after the "Karate Kid" was released in theaters ... when he dropped a truth bomb about the most iconic fighting move of all time.

Note to Cobra Kai -- sweeping the leg ... also generally ineffective.

It doesn't work? Crap no wonder I got my ass kicked so many times. Guess now I will have to resort to the Vulcan nerve pinch.

One guy mentioned it already but the machida vs couture ko is pretty close. Also Anderson Silva crane kicked Vitor Belfort but it was jumping. Travis Brown recently Crane kicked Alistair Overeem and that was at heavyweight (265lbs)

Anderson Silva knocked out Vitor Belfort cold with that kick in a real fight... the kick is legit!

Lyoto Machida used it pretty effectively on Randy Couture, the tooth that he knocked out of Randy's mouth would probably say the same thing.

" Get him a body bag" has to be the greatest quote in movie history.

If you know the proper way to sweep a leg, it can work on just about anyway. You need to make contact on the back of the knee joint. Its basically a clip. Makes the knee buckle forward.
Its never gonna look like it does in the movies, but its still a valid take-down.

It was called the crane technique. Not kick. Get it right.
