SELLING Mega-Estate in L.A.!!!

3/19/2014 6:26 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

This is really shocking ... the incredible European country estate Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen spent 4 years and $40 million building is on the market ... less than a year after it was completed.

Our real estate sources tell us ... the couple wants out of L.A. permanently and will be living full- time in Boston, where they're building another ridiculously big estate -- a 14,300 square-foot house on 5 acres.  The estate is listed for a cool $50 MILLION!!!

As for the L.A. house, Tom and Gisele personally spent a huge amount of time planning the design.  It's an amazing property -- a 14,000 square-foot main house, one of the best home gyms in the world, antiques from everywhere around the globe, an amazing infinity pool, waterfall and pond ... all on 4 prime acres in Brentwood.

There was actually a buzz the New England Patriots QB and his supermodel wife would move to L.A. full-time after he retired,  but clearly that's not the case.

What we can't figure out -- why not have 2, more modest $20 million mansions in both cities.

BTW ... we called Tom and Gisele's brokers -- Kurt Rappaport and Stephen Shapiro -- but our calls weren't returned.

Beautiful place.

If I was them, I would build a home with less emphasis on size and more on the feel of home. I have a huge master bedroom and it looks and feels empty in spite of all the furniture in it. The size takes away from the homey feel.

This home looks like a hotel or spa. They need to allow designers to build their home with a homey feel. They can build an extension of a few rooms, living room, and kitchen for relatives and visitors as they maintain their own privacy.

I don't know why they don't do that. Who are they competing with?

Why with all that money wouldn't you build on the ocean?

It needs to be used as a hotel or a Bed and Breakfast, no one in their right mind needs all that space, it was ridiculous to build something so huge in the first place, what a waste. Just the monthly upkeep on this is probably a year's pay for a normal person, think of what the taxes are! Imagine vacuuming or cleaning it too, no thanks, I wouldn't want it even if I could afford it.

That looks more like a vacation resort property than a home. Who would want to live in such a huge, cold place?

These richies are freaking retarded and never think about their future or finances. Look how many past superstars are now bankrupt cause of the same kind of foolish spending. Its sad that they waste money the way they do. I mean seriously, two people needing 10 bedroom houses is totally stupid.

Hideous house.

I'm sorry but it does not look like a house to lve in, it looks like a museum. Just too stuffy looking to relax in. Atleast many Celebity homes have a comfortable look while being elagent but this just screams I am a snob and don't dare sit on my furniture...or touch it.

Most people, even the very wealthy ones, have no idea the costs involved in maintaining an estate like this. Even if they don't live there full time, the costs involved never go away. The younger ones especially have no clue. They think these properties maintain themselves. I have worked for some of these families in these types of homes. You had better be planning to earn a ton of money for many years to come. And most young, rich people are not prepared. They live minute to minute and do things impulsively, not thinking about the consequences.
