David Cassidy

Ordered Into Rehab After DUI Plea

3/24/2014 3:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

03-24-14-david-cassidy-tmzDavid Cassidy's ass just got spanked by the legal system after pleading no contest to DUI -- the judge ordered him to enroll in a 90-day live-in rehab facility for alcohol abuse.

TMZ broke the story ... Cassidy was busted for DUI in L.A. back in January -- his third DUI arrest since 2010.

In addition to rehab, Cassidy was also sentenced to 60 months probation. He must also complete a 9-month alcohol program.

We were previously told Cassidy had enrolled in rehab last month. It's unclear if the judge will give him credit for his previous stint.

Cassidy had originally faced up to a year in jail -- so he should consider this a victory. Even if his wife still wants to divorce him.+

5:07 PM PT -- Cassidy's rep tells TMZ, the singer had already been enrolled in an inpatient rehab facility at the time of his sentencing today and the judge will be giving him credit for the 102 days he's served. We're told Cassidy will be transitioning into a monitored outpatient program (with a sober coach) early next month. The rep says, "David is very committed to his sobriety."

Most alcoholics die. Only about 5% recover. He is trying....and trying very hard. I pray he makes it. Unless you have been there, don't judge. Just about everyone is addicted to something....look in the mirror instead of trying to feel better throwing slop at someone who is obviously very committed! Ugly RAGS like TMZ incite people to spew hate. It is 'those in charge' who are manipulating you. Don't let it happen! Get up from this site and do something good for yourself.....and someone else! :)

Put the guy in jail. He is a danger to society while on the road. He had enough breaks. Teach him a lesson not to put people's lives at risk. Jail time and no more of these phoney rehabs that are basically expensive spas.

It is not the 70's anymore David. Wake up and get a life. Don't be on the roads while drinking. We are tried of your lame excuses. You have a drinking problem now that is everyone's problem because you decided to drive on our roads. Jail is the only thing that will teach you a lesson.

3 strikes and you're out! 14 years sober and first year of sobriety was spent in Mansfield State prison for women following 3 DUI's in consecutive years. Served time as a felon because that was what I was. This guy could have killed an innocent family. He has the balls to go on national media quoting the AA program in an effort to win his son's approval. As a recovering person, he needs to lay low...piss in a cup for the next year and stop using the AA program. Darn lucky he did not get jail time, but leave the program and it's quotes alone. As an anonymous person, his tale is textbook on using the program to escape jail time. If the courts really wanted to help this *******, they would have put him behind bars for a year. They obviously could care less. Hope I'm wrong, but they sit back and snicker as they know the minute he is off probation.... his ass will be in the liquor store buying Kentucky moonshine. Hope he has the sense to get the bottle and drink at home!
